For the first time in my life, I cannot find my Drivers License--& we leave for WDW in a week! Does anyone know if the airlines will accept the copy from the licensing dept, if my 'hard copy' does not arrive in time? TIA

You should call the airline ...do you have a valid US passport???

Do you mean like a photocopy? It couldn't hurt to ask, but I doubt it.

We get our licenses while we wait. I could literally get a replacement in 5 minutes. Do they not do that in WA? Could you have it expedited or could you get a State ID quicker?

I went to DMV for a replacement DL.

TSA will require a government-issued, non-expired ID:

U.S. passport
U.S. passport card
DHS "Trusted Traveler" cards (NEXUS, SENTRI, FAST)
U.S. Military ID (active duty or retired military and their dependents, and DOD civilians)
Permanent Resident Card
Border Crossing Card
DHS-designated enhanced driver's license
Drivers Licenses or other state photo identity cards issued by Department of Motor Vehicles (or equivalent)
A Native American Tribal Photo ID
An airline or airport-issued ID (if issued under a TSA-approved security plan)
A foreign government-issued passport
Canadian provincial driver's license or Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) card
Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)

That's how we do it here in WV too! In and out with DL in hand. Easy, peasy! Of course we all have passports too. I'm always amazed that other states seem to make it so hard.

Here in PA we go to the dmv and wait 5 minutes and you get your ID. Do they not do that where you are? I think that's your best bet, unless you have a valid US passport.

You can fly without an ID but be prepared for a huge hassle and leave lots and lots of extra time.

Assuming you don't have a passport, can you return to the DMV for a non driver ID in, most DMV's issue them on the spot.

Otherwise - if you are checking luggage you will need to show ID then. If your flying SWA and can have someone else check your bag with theirs that will eliminate that issue. Or it may be worth the extra bag fee on another airline -your call.

Most important is TSA - go to the website tsa.gov and find the info on flying without ID. IIRC the more documentation the better even if it is expired and if you have a work or school ID with a photo bring that.

Be prepared for extra screening and lots of questions and hopefully you will clear!

I did some googling. It seems you can fly without ID, you will be questioned and searched more thoroughly and should allow ample time for delays.

I just found this:

Yes, my sister (sometimes a bit of a flake,) ended up flying a year ago without a license, and she doesn't have a passport. I think she said they just asked her a lot of questions/security ect., so it should be possible. I'd call the airline and ask them, and maybe TSA, if they have a phone number or website.

I have some personal experience with this. I had lost my ID and couldn't get a replacement in time for our trip. Give yourself plenty of extra time. That is the number one thing I could tell you. We had to run to our gate and board, my kids were freaked. Bring the paper saying you applied for a new ID (if you have it). Your birth certificate and something else with your name. Health Ins. card, credit card... They might ask you a bunch of questions and send you through extra security. We flew out of JFK and they gave me a hard time. :scared1: I was just patient and apologized, after all it was my fault. But flying out of MCO, TSA was much more easy going. They told the supervisor what I had (birth certificate and ins. card) and he said, "that's all she needs" and sent me on my way. No extra security checks (like at JFK).

Many states mail out drivers licenses and state ids. Not everyone issues them on the spot for security reasons. Maine mails them.

My daughter can not find hers either. We live in NY, and there is a 10 wait to have it mailed. Fingers are crossed because we leave in 15 days...:confused3
Always something to stress me out right before vacation.
