Can someone tell me when I turn the camera on (auto setting) that I have a little hand on the screen while I am taking a picture. I thought it meant that it cant focus, but I can't believe it cant focus everytime. How do I get it off? Thanks

The little hand in parenthesis just means means the Continuous IS (image stabilization) is on; this is the default and means nothing's wrong and you don't want to turn it off unless you're using a tripod (and, maybe not even then).

That little icon can also look like a dot or an arrow; for Shoot Only and Panning IS respectively. There's also a couple other options for when you're using a TC or a WA lens; they should be listed in the manual (on or about page 39).

When the camera can't focus, it beeps and changes the color of the AF rectangle to yellow instead of green.
