Good morning all,
I am sitting here in PAIN! Last night, while getting into my car, I let go of the door to pull in the belt of my jacket (so it wouldn't get closed in the door)...and while I thought the door would stay open, it slammed on my ankle (it hit right where the ball sockets are)...ok, so it hurt really bad, no problem. Well, I walked on it last night and it was sore, but I woke from my sleep with a throbbing ankle. And I have trouble putting weight on it. But, it is not swollen, only maybe slightly. I have tried ice and ibuprofen, but the pain is getting worse rather than better.

What on earth could be making it get worse rather than better? It hurts all the way up to my knee. Last night it was only sore. (I have never broken any bones, so I am not sure what to think). If it continues to get worse, I will have to give in and get it checked out, but it is my right ankle and I would need to get a ride...so I am kinda just waiting to see...

anyone have any ankle injury experience?...I know about Towncrier(was it his leg or ankle?);), but I obviously didn't don't have anything THAT bad going on...

TIA, wendy

I have broken my ankle before as well as several other bones. Mine have never gotten swollen. I could walk on the ankle and move my wrists. I never bruised either.

Sounds like you should go and have it looked at by your Dr. or the hospital.

Good Luck!!

My sister broke her ankle something like 3 times and never even knew it! As an adult, she injured her foot somehow and found out it had broken years past from an x-ray.

Thanks, although that isn't necessarily what I wanted to hear, LOL. I will probably wait a little bit and then call my mother (waaaahhhh mom, I gotta booboo!!:)) and have her drive me in. It's starting to make my stomach upset...

I just wonder why it is getting worse? If I broke it, you would think I would have been acute right away rather than over time...guess that's why I am not a doctor...lol

I broke one of my fingers once and, although it hurt a lot when I did it, the next day was worse. I had minor swelling at first but the next morning the thing was swollen up like a balloon.

Yup, time to see a doctor for you. Good luck.

Roberta

Wow, that sure sounds painful. I was in Sports Medicine in college, and Iwould lean toward a break or a very bad bone bruise. Hope the doctors can help you out and that the pain subsides soon.

Get the Xray. It will be worth the peace of mind. I hope that you just twisted it and that it will heal without any need for a cast.

I've always been told that those are two signs that you might have broken something, especially the pain increasing.

I'd definitely get it checked out and I hope it's nothing!

In my family, we don't swell. I broke my ankle on Mother's Day in college, and it didn't swell right away. The clinic nurse yanked it around and declared it a minor sprain because there was no swelling and gave me an aspirin. Luckily, my mommy would have none of that and came down to take me to the doctor, where, a day later, the ankle finally swelled and bruised. It was pretty nasty looking. It had swollen so much by that point that they couldn't even set my ankle.

Thanks guys,

I just got back from the ER, it isn't broken (yea!), but it is sprained and the bone is badly bruised (you were right piglet too;)). They put an air cast on it and gave me crutches. I can't bear weight on it for 2-3 days...then a follow up with a sport medicine orthopedic doc next week. They also gave me scripts for vicodin and motrin...try learning to use using crutches while on vicodin...LOL, dangerous in itself!

I am high as a kite and a happy camper that I don't have to be in a cast for 6 weeks.

Thanks for all of the well wishes and thoughts...I appreciate it.

Also, this was considered a car accident as far as insurance purposes (per state law)! LOL!

A car accident! LOL

Will it do anything to your premiums?

Glad to hear it's not broken.

I broke my ankle in elementry school. My stupid teacher wouldn't even let me see the nurse. She took one look at it and said, "it's not swollen, it'll be okay." By the end of the day, I couldn't even walk on it. I remember my mom came to pick me up and I stood up to walk to the car and I just crumbled down to the ground. My big sister had to get out of the car and pick me up to carry me back to the car.

You're lucky it's not broken. My ankle still gives me problems every now and then. It turns out that I have really weak ankles and they sprang easily.

I am feeling much better today...I take my pills like a good girl and all is well.;) (the ankle finally started swelling last might..)

Marcie,
No, we were told it won't affect the insurance premium...I guess the car has to be moving for that, LOL

OUCH. I'm glad your ankle isn't broken but sorry that you have a sprain.

Did they give you good pain meds? I hope you can control the pain so you can rest at night.
