I have no idea what this bush is called but for 12 years it has been happily growing. In the summer it always attracts the bees.

Today i noticed that parts of it are covered in what looks like cobwebs and those parts are dying.

Does anyone...

a) Know what the bush is called.

b) Know what is wrong with it

c) Know what to do?

Thanks

The bush is a cotoneaster not sure about the spelling :confused3
Could have Red spider mites which suck the sap never had it before on my plants. You could try spraying them off but it looks like the very bare patches would have to be cut out they do recover quickly from pruning I trim mine twice a year to make hedging. :)

Thanks for that, i think i have found the problem and it seems to be baby caterpillars :scared1:

I have cut loads and loads off but it is a far bigger job than i am capable of so i think i will have to get someone in to cut it right back to near stump level.

And there was me thinking i had problems have a look at this on another thread i asked for help on.(you have to scroll right down) Poor person had to get the council in to sort it.

Omg that close up has made extremly itchy!!! I think id go with the plan of getting someone in to cut it right back too !!

Honestly that would be my WORST NIGHTMARE as I am scared stiff of moths and the thought that each one of those catapillars was going to become a moth would just freak me out.. :scared1:

that plant will survive a lot of rough treatment , so a good cut back shouldn't do it any harm - nasty bugs!
