just got a call last night from Shades of Green and they have an opening in the Contemporary for the week we will be in WDW Oct 31- Nov8. I also have a ressie for ASSp for $49 per night. If I go with the Contemp, it will be abot $410 more. I don't want to be cheap, but do you think the extra money is worth it? My 15 yr old is happy with the ASsp. I also have a 3 yr old. What should I do?????

I don't know what your thoughts are on the advantages of CR.

That said, your 13 yera old would probably like the All Star. You would probably prefer the CR for sanity's sake!

The spaciousness of the rooms at the CR is sure a nice thing to have as is the location but I personally prefer the AS resorts over the CR just for the fun of it, particularly with kids. If the kids are happy at AS and you think you will be okay there too then saving the $400 would be wonderful.

If you think about it, just being in the World is the biggest advatange of both. Considering you'll only actually be in the resort a small amount of hours a day, I think I'd go with saving the money for something else. *shrug* but that's just me!

Have you ever planned on staying at the CR? Is this Shades of Green price the only way you will ever stay there? If the answer to these questions is yes, then I think you should consider doing it. As was already mentioned the rooms are larger, and who doesn't LOVE the idea that the monorail "drives" right through it?

That being said, I am not a fan of the CR decor, and really have no desire to stay there. Plus I think the Shades of Green rooms are in the garden wings not the tower (excuse me if I am incorrect about that) and I don't think it has the same feel.

If you and your children will be just as happy, or maybe even happier with the feel and decor of the AS resort, then I say save yourself the money!

An alternative would be to keep your AS room for most of your stay and then move to the CR at the end of your stay for 1 or 2 nights, just to check out that resort.

Good Luck in deciding and have a great trip!! :wave2:

This is a no brainer.
1)Would you ever be able to stay at a deluxe again at those prices?
2) Would you rather stand at bus stop waiting on bus or walk to your room (or ride the monorail for two sec.) from MK?
3) If your three year old gets tired during the day and you feel you should go back to the room how long would that take?
4) Could you take a boat ride and be at Ft. Wilderness petting Zoo in a matter of a few min?
5)Could you ride the Monorail to EPCOT any time you decided?
6) Could you order room service if just to tired to move?
7) Could you be located at one of the best resorts with top resturants and sit-down service?
8)Would you have to share pool with quite as many people?
9) Could your 13 year rent watermouse to tour Bay Lake?
10) Could you still have any question as to what you should do?

I agree with CaptnHook.
But only you are awear of your financial ability, I believe it's a wounderful deal one that most would love to have. I have stayed at both locations and I would perfer CR. For all the same reasons listed by Captn. You will have a wonderful time whatever you decide just take a deep breath and decide what you want for your family. Just the watermouse thing would sway your 13 year old.

we satyed at the CR and loved it, just for the conveince, location, large rooms( 2 beds and a day bed) transportation.
but if you stay at AS, just think how many chef mickey buffets you can do.
hmmmmmm........ we love to eat and love the conveinces

hard choice for you not for us that is why we became dvc members, stay deluxe resorts and eat very well, and then walk it off in the parks.:cool1:

:jumping1:
good luck, i think you can only decide, talk to your family and let them give their opionon :wizard:

I have stayed at both the All Star Resorts and at the CR - SOG rooms. There are pros and cons to both.

The rooms in the Garden Wing at the CR are no better or bigger than the rooms at the AS. The walk to the bus stop and at the monorail at the CR is about the same distance. As a matter of fact, we ended up walking to the Magic Kingdom more times than back to the monorail because the distance was about the same. Our room at the AS was actually cleaner and better kept than the one at the CR.

The condition of the room we were in did not make me feel like I was at a deluxe resort at the CR and I would never have paid full-price for it. The $100 at disney prices was not a bad deal though. I was quite disappointed with the "deal" SOG made for these rooms.

However, the CR itself is great in that you have a wonderful shopping area, the monorail access, and the proximity to Magic Kingdom which is great to take a mid-day break. You also have easy access to some great eating places and a great character meal at Chef Mickey's. My daughter also liked the pool slide (but there are more pools at the AS resorts.)

I enjoyed my stay at the CR-SOG because of the resort not because of the room we were in. Would I do it again? Yes, but only if I was in the Tower in a refurbished room for a slightly higher price.

What it comes down to is if you see yourself spending a lot of time at Magic Kingdom, then the convenience of CR is worth the extra money. Plus, your Ds would probably love watching the monorail. Best of luck with your decision and have a great time.

I vote for splitting your stay between the two places.

Go to All Star for the first half, CR for the second.

Whatever you decide - enjoy! :)

I would DEFINITELY go with CR, if money's not a real big issue.

I would look at it this way:

3yo = MK = CR

I would do CR , Your right in the middle of everything, We stayed in the tower and wound up walking to and from the resort almost everytime. CR has a great pool and probably the best game room for the kids in any dis resort. If you can afford the difference you should do it
:bounce: ,

If you can swing the difference, I would most certainly try the CR....rooms are tons bigger! I like CapnHook's summation.

I think I just wanted someone to say-yeah go for it. the CR is worth the money. So I did it. I just got off the phone and made the ressies and cancelled my other ones. So close to Christmas to spend the extra $ but this will be mom's present!!!

So again, thanks for the replys.

So if you have any hints I should know about on check in or for things to do around the resort, best place for the water pagent and fireworks, I'd be again grateful!! pam

I'm glad you made the right choice! While the CR isn't one of our favorite resorts, and the Garden Wings are nowhere near as nice as the Tower, passing up a one and only chance to stay at the CR for the SOG rate would be foolish, unless you really couldn't afford the extra money. I disagree with this......................
The rooms in the Garden Wing at the CR are no better or bigger than the rooms at the AS.
While "better" may be subjective, "bigger" is not. Rooms at the CR are much bigger than those at the AS. The location of the CR can't be beat. I actually think being able to walk to the MK is one of the biggest benefits the resort offers. Staying in a deluxe monorail resort is a great experience you won't regret.

I'm excited for you! We really enjoyed our stay at the CR through SOG and the CR is now one of our favorites!

Every night we would watch the water parade from a little picnic table located right next to the North garden wing and the playground. All the grown ups would sit at the table and the kids would play in the playground till the parade started; it was the best spot because it's out on a little patio so no one can sit in front of you.
