you may want to put pee pads on that area and the dog may catch on to it.
Another thought is using the tray form of potty training that's available in different brands. The top surface is like artificial grass and you can use an entricer liquid solution on it that intrigues your dog to go there. These are not that expensive.
I would also go back to puppy training techniques like the dog goes out after every meal. If she plays at all she goes out after playing. Absolutely take her out first thing in the morning and just before everyone goes to bed. If you see her drinking water take her out, as well. After any nap you take the dog out. I did these techniques with my older dog of 15-1/2 years and they do work. Fortunately, I was home to do this for the dog. You may have to get your whole family involved in this process if you're too busy to do it all by yourself.
As a last resort you may have to go to crating the dog when she can't be watched all the time. Most older dogs don't mind it. They get their own space to take a nap. This is not an all answer solution; you should maintain a schedule, too for potty. Another way is to get the dog diapers. Some dogs will not tolerate wearing one, but others don't seem to mind. You may want to give the dog a treat when putting it on; so, she associates the treat with the diaper.
I would never give up on my dog because she is incontinent.
