My 4 year old nephew was scared of the Yetti, but a lot of kids are. Also good to mention that it might be scarier since they have to sit on their own now. He was scared and I was holding him when the seats were the old ones back in November. Other than that he liked it, but he didn't complain about Space or ToT. I guess the fake, scary red-eyed yetti is scarier, lol.
The Yeti freaked out my 4 year old (now 14!) I think it was the scream as much as the Yeti itself. He wasn't fond of Thunder Mountain, but Matterhorn was worse for him.
Matterhorn is slower than Big Thunder and no steep drops, just dips. So it's not as scary as far as speed or drops go but as others have mentioned there is a brief instant where you pass Yetti the abominable snow man. I would not have thought it would be scary since you see it only for a couple seconds but young kids I suppose might.
Sounds like your 4yr old might enjoy the tamer rides and shows.
I remember going to DLR when I was 6-7 and had no problems with Thunder Mountain, but Matterhorn's height and Yeti didn't sit too well with me ... didn't get the courage to try it again until I was in my teens. So I'm voting "no" to the Matterhorn in this case
the quick answer since you're there --- Based on my personal experience I probably wouldn't chance the Matterhorn.-----
DD (3.5 at the time) loved both Splash and Space Mountain.
Yeti on Matterhorn scared her.
She's been spending the year reenacting the rides, including Matterhorn, and getting her courage up for next time.

That's funny, I was thinking she was meaning GSS over in CA!
I agree though, if you must coaster, try Gadget's. I've never had that problem DD loved Goofy's at WDW when she was 2 (and just barely met the HR) and has loved every coaster since (except SM, it took her a while to warm up to it because of the darkness).
Matterhorn is a fairly bumpy ride, also. I get the sense that there are definitely kids that do better with BTMRR and Screamin' even though they are larger, faster rides, just because they are smoother.
