I'm having weird problems with the computer today. I can get on the DIS and post just fine. I'm in Facebook withdrawal. I get their start page. When I sign in with either my login or my son tries to sign in with his, we both get the following:

This program cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:

  • <LI id=causeNotConnected>You are not connected to the Internet. <LI id=causeSiteProblem>The website is encountering problems.
  • There might be a typing error in the address.
What you can try:

Check your Internet connection. Try visiting another website to make sure you are connected.

Retype the address.

We've tried three different browsers to sign in, and we both get the same message each time. We've tried AOL, Firefox, and Google Chrome. I've even deleted Firefox and downloaded their latest version. Same thing. It was all working fine last night, and darling son said he was on Facebook this morning without a problem.

Strangely enough, HP Total Care Advisor is also having problems, says it's searching for any info, and shuts itself down. :( Any ideas? Thanks!

P.S. Apparently, Facebook isn't the only site I'm having problems with. Found another one that says navigation was canceled.

Have you tried my ole standby. totally shut off your computer for a few minutes and restart.

I don't have any helpful advice but I wanted to mention that I have all kinds of problems with Vista kicking me off our wireless internet connection. DH's laptop has XP and mine has Vista and he will never lose his connection sitting in the same room as me and Vista disconnects me frequently. I am very often having to reconnect when clearly it isn't a problem with our wireless connection because hubby's laptop is online just fine.

I hate hate hate VISTA

Heres some info that May help

Vista firewall is active not passive like XP.
Turn off firewall, enable Javascript and html, clear all cookies, close web browser after deleting all tabs. Then open back up the web address using www. (and the web address you want)
If that does not work, go to www.speedtest.net. Run the speed test on the nearest server and embed the results here...it will tell you the latency of your connection and tell you if you are timing out on high memory websites.
Best of Luck
My ds LOVES Vista (so this was all from him, he is a computer Junky!):wizard:

Yes, I've shut down the computer and restarted a number of times.

dizluvah...Thanks for the empathy! I feel for you!!

a1tinkfans...Thanks for all that! Thank your son for me. :) Unfortunately, I haven't had any luck with it. And now I've managed to set a password for every page I visit. :faint:  More fun trying to undo that. Anyone have some dynomite? :badpc:

I have similar problems with Windows XP at times. I'd suspect your service provider, first. Also, note that sometimes various services (Facebook and the DIS, for example) happen to rely, at least in some ways, on the same service provider. (Level 3, perhaps.) If their service provider is having trouble, it might look to you as if you're having trouble.

Thanks, Bicker! That's a help. :thumbsup2

Strangely enough, the printer isn't there any longer. I've used the disk to reinstall it. The icon is there. But when I restart the computer, there's nothing in a listing of possible choices. :faint: Don't think I'm buying an HP again.

Oh Goodness!
SO sorry to hear you are still having issues.
The DS LIVES off Vista, I do not use it........I am going to speak with him again this afternoon....

In the meantime, in my past experience with HP, they were good.....have you spoken directly with them about the issues you are now having??? :confused3

Will pop back in thread later today..............
Meanwhile sending Calming Vibes and Luck your way! :wizard:
