I went to the doctors a few days ago and I found out I was allergic to soybeans and all fruits and vegetables. I was woundering if they have any special menus or any kinds food that doesn't have soybeans in it.

Oh, tinkerbell15, if you are allergic to soybeans and cannot tolerate even a little bit, then you will have quite a chore selecting foods outside of your own kitchen!

I am also allergic to soybeans. And almost all processed foods contain soy in some form: For example, soy oil, soy protein, soy flour, margarine, mayonnaise, most fried foods (although Disney Cruises tend to fry things in canola oil), most salad dressings.

The way I cope when I travel, is to eat mainly raw fruits and vegetables (with vinegar or wine vinegar, with olive oil if it is available), or to ask for vegetables steamed without any fat, or for broiled meat with no sauces. Then I can add real butter (have to be VERY specific about this) to my vegetables, especially baked potatoes, yum!--but find out whether the skin is oiled before cooking.

But if you are allergic to ?all fruits and vegetables,? then you cannot do what I do. In this case you DEFINITELY need to talk to a nutritionist or dietician about how to find safe foods and an adequate diet. A lot depends on exactly what your symptoms are and how severe. You will learn by trial and error how much you can eat--if any--before the symptoms are too strong to tolerate.

MEANWHILE, I found the Disney Wonder (in particular, my head waiter Ali) to be very eager to provide me with soy-free foods. And they succeeded perfectly!

I wrote up my experience on the Wonder on the disABILITIES board. Here is where you can find my VERY DETAILED description of what I did and of what foods were safe on the June 27 cruise:

Be sure to read all the way down to my July 2 post, written AFTER the cruise.

I wish you good luck and good professional advice. You have quite a challenge, but you can do it!

Call your TA or DCL(whichever your booked the cruise with) and tell them you need the medical form. You can list your allergies, and your servers will be made aware of the issue. The kitchen should be able to provide something you can eat. What an odd allergy....the soy I've heard about, but all fruits and vegetables....wow!:(

Just a thought, my nephew is allergic to soybeans, but not soybean oil. Something about being allergic to the protein. He is also allergic to several vegetables and legumes, again b/c of the protein. These proteins are not in the oil. It may be worth talking to your doctor to see if you are allergic to the oil or not.

I went to the doctor twice, once for food allergies and once to get tested on weeds, trees, and a lot of other things. When I went back to get tested on trees and the other things he told me is to stay away from all soy products. My allergies just make my ears, mouth, and throat itch, and I get bumps on my lips. My allergies have gotten worse over the years because before I was just allergic just to apples and carrots. Since my allergies are not that severe I might see if I could eat just the regular food just for the cruise and then go back on not eating any of that food again. My doctor just doesn’t want me to get even more allergic to those foods and get allergic to other kinds of food. Last year at dinner everyday I had a strawberry smoothie. I know strawberry is a fruit but last year it didn’t bother me, and sometimes if the fruit is mixed with something it doesn’t bother me. I was wondering if the smoothies have soybeans in it. Thank you for all who have posted.
