My 21 year old son loves to play poker. This August we are in Vegas for two days and he wants to spend time in a poker room. He will have between $50 and $100 dollars tops to spend. What advice can you all give me, such as best rooms, how we go about it, will he be safe on his own, etc, etc. Any advice gratefully received.
We are staying off strip at the Tuscany Casino and Suites.

thanks!!

The Luxor has a No Limit holdem game where the MAX buy in is $50.

Check out allvegaspoker.com

it gives you info about all the poker rooms and all the tournements.

Hope he has fun!

that's not much money to walk into a poker room and start playing. It is enough for a buy in to a hold 'em tournament. A couple years ago, DH played in one at the Alladin/Planet Hollywood. It was in the morning, evening ones were more expensive. I think it was $35-40 buy in plus an optional extra $10 for more chips. He said that there were around 90-100 people, top 10 places paid out, and he played for 2 - 2 1/2 hours and finished 12th.

His morning was much cheaper than mine. I went shopping at Sephora :) .

Thanks you guys for the tips. I know it's not a lot of money but I don't want him spending all day gambling when we are short of time!!

You've been a great help!

:yay:

Tell him to stay away from the no-limit tables. The amount of money he has got is not going to get him far. Ideally you want to be able to buy-in for the max when playing no-limit and that is usually $200 (1-2 no-limit). The luxor does have a game with $100 max, but the blinds are too high for that buy-in.

The best bet is to find a room with a 2-4 limit game. At these games a $100 buy-in will give you a fair amount of play.

A good room to play is at TI. They have a very well run room which is very friendly. They also spread a 2-4 limit game that attracts a lot of inexperienced players.

As mentioned, check out allvegaspoker.com. It is the best site on the internet regarding poker in Vegas.
