Ok, in Mid June I am going out to Califorinia for 2 weeks with Family (first week is a cruise **non-disney**) and thinking about spending the other week by myself at DL (It's going to be my first time at DL :cool1:). Now because the rest of my family will have the transportation (they are sightseeing) I will not have any (and I don't think I'd need it, as I intend to be only at DLR)

My parents (save money / go cheap) are freaking over the prices of the 3 DLR Hotels:confused3. The only one I am considering is Paradise Pier Hotel because it is the lowest of the three---standard room being at approx $240. I really don't have a problem with the price. Personally, being the first time to DLR I would like to stay on property.

But if I am forced to take heed to prices or if there is a better hotel to stay at....are there any hotels outside DLR that are within a short walking distance and below $150?

I have been looking on expedia and travelocity (before anyone says to check them:teeth:).......the Howard Johnson seems nice, but I'd like to hear opinions and recommendations of people who've been to the DLR area.

Any questions or need clarification on anything I've wrote, please ask:)

Thank you everyone!

Hi there!

Sounds like you will have a fun trip, doing what you like, at your own schedule!

I am planning a trip to DL this year, and in terms of hotels that are close and not too expensive, these are the ones we are looking at:
Candy Cane (has a shuttle I believe)
Camelot Inn
Tropicana Inn
Ramada Maingate
Carousel Inn
Desert Inn & Suites

These are the ones that are right across the street from the entrance (except for the Candy Cane, but it has a shuttle.)

Good luck with your trip plans!

I've stayed at the other two on property hotels as well as several others (see my sig line), and I still prefer the HoJo. They offer a Dis rate discount (the code is on another thread around here somewhere).

I nearly always stay at the Fairfield Inn by Marriott. Rooms are basic, but always clean. I have stayed there 6 times in the last 15 years and have never had a problem.

It is right across the street from the entry point (you can see the top of the Space Mountain Building from the balcony).

The restuarant out the front (Millies) is pretty good, and there are many others within walking distance (Tony Roma's, iHop etc..)

The other factor for me is that the bus stop is right out the front, which means it is easy to get to Target and South Coast Plazza Shopping Centre.

For most of our previous trips we've stayed at the Best Western Park Place Inn. It's right there at the pedestrian intersection, a very easy walk to the parks. The rooms are nice and the price is reasonable.

This time around DH and I would like to try something a bit different so we're going to stay at the Anaheim Fairfield Inn. It adds just a couple minutes to our walk to the park but I've heard it's a great hotel too and it's right behind our favorite offsite restaurant, Millie's.

I don't like motels, but we really liked the Fairfield Inn. Our room was about $100 and we were able to check in at 8:30am. We walked to the front gate in less than 10 minutes. The whole motel was really nice, but we did have VERY noisy neighbors. I don't know if it was because the walls were super thin or if they were just super loud.

We decided to book at the Candy Cane for our trip in Aug based on reviews on the dis and on tripadvisor. Rooms incl. breakfast, free parking, and free shuttle...though it is a very short walk to the parks. We considered on-property....but for the price, I just can't justify it. I would rather save the money and put it towards another trip to WDW. I see more value for staying on property at WDW.

I agree 100%! Staying on-site at WDW is a must imho, but not at all at DLR. We've stayed at many of the motels around DLR, but our new favorite is the Hojos. Nice clean rooms, easy walk to the parks, great rates, and we could see the TOT from our room!
