It is. It seems like a huge street, but it's not that bad to cross. There are a LOT of pedestrians in the area. Just use the signals and it's all good. Personally, I like to stay down near the convention center. I don't need to cross Harbor at all, but I do cross Katella. The walk is further, but there's a CVS on that side that I like to stop in for a bottled soda I can take with me. Don't worry about the streets too much though.
I know it seems weird too because it doesn't have the "Disney Bubble" that WDW has, but honestly, once you're through the main gate, the city fades away. You can see into it from some of the taller rides, but that's about it. DL is a bit different, but great in it's own ways. There was a thread around somewhere that was a DL guide for WDW vets, but I don't know how up to date it is. Feel free to ask any other questions though.
As someone who has never been to DL, I'm having a tough time understanding how offsite hotels are walkable to the entrance of DL and DCA. Anyone have a good overhead view photo or map that might make this easy to understand?
I stayed in the Tropicana this week. It took me 5 minutes to walk from my room to the bag check line. That's closer than the Contemporary is to Magic Kingdom.

Tropicana was great. Last summer, my family of 5 decided to escape the mid-summer heat and head back to the hotel. We were at the far end of CarsLand and we were able to walk back to the Tropicana in just 15 minutes! Try doing that at WDW.....where if not timed right, by the time you walk out the park and go to the Disney Bus Stops, you might have a 20+ minute delay till the next bus shows!
WDW Vets, it's also for that reason I'd highly recommend getting Park Hopper at Disneyland. The parks are so close to each other, you can be at the far end of Star Wars Galaxy's Edge and walk over to DCA within 10-15 minutes!
