help... a few questions before I leave

This board is awesome and has been so helpful to me while planning our first ever Disney experience! I have a few questions I hope you can help me with. Is the tipping recommendation per person??? i figured it out and if that is the case we will dish out almost 2000.00 for our family of five in tips. (for a 7 day) Is that right?
Also, is there availability for my son (11) to swim laps, is there a lap pool for his age?
Finally, does the ship accept travelers checks as payment for our on board account?

I think you need to redo your math on the tips, more like 4-500. Not a lap pool, Goofy pool closest to that description. Yes, travelers checks work. Have a great cruise.

Helped you out tkrules, for your family of five, the recommended gratuities for your 7 day are $381.25. Adjustable at your discretion.

However, for $2k, I'll go along and be your personal concierge service.

Thank goodness! i almost had a panic attack....i took the amount listed in the docs and used it as a DAILY tip amount, then took the totals and multiplied it by 5. Am I to understand that the tips amount listed is for the entire cruise? That my restaurant server only get 25.75 from each person in our family??? I will plan to tip more than the recommended, because from what I understand they all work their tails off to make your vaction extraordinary.

That's right, and yes they do work their tails off to make sure your family has a great time. Welcome to the DIS!

tkrules - welcome to the DIS.

The amount listed in the docs is for the entire week per person. So take that amount and multiply by 5. We almost always tip above what is recommended and often add phone cards in as well. Yes the servers/asst. servers/and stewards work very, very hard for you.

As for the pools - no real lap pools per say. He could do laps in the Goofy pool, but they would be short laps and he would have to be in the pool very early or very late. Most times I see the Goofy pool there really isn't room for swimming.

If not for these boards, you would be the most loved guest on the cruise lines!!! With a tip like that, your servers would be following you around all over the ship!!! LOL

On our last trip, our head waiter was at our table quite a bit. He checked in almost every night and made sure everything was okay.

Also, guest services will exchange your travelers checks for cash for when you go ashore at the ports.
