Oh Boy, just found out a science project is due in a day for my DS who is in big trouble for putting it off. Anyway, he must combine two elements that are around the house to make up a new element! You can use food etc. Any ideas - I am stumped at the moment. :earseek: :earseek: :bounce:

Salt and water to make salt water????

boil water and sugar to make syrup

flour water and salt to make play doh

water and soap to mke bubbles

Is this the kind of thing you were thinking about?

Baking soda and vinegar will produce carbon dioxide (messy though, remember making volcano models in class?)....

There is also one little experiment where you mix milk and vinegar and this stuff forms like a malleable plastic, but I am not sure about the ratios involved...

Good luck!

Actually, when you combine two elements you get a compound. But, I don't suppose in the fifth grade they are being that accurate. It is actually difficult to find elements just lying around. Most things we see are already combined to form compounds. Example: salt is a compound of Sodium and Chloride.

On my way home to start/finish. We even have to come up with elements symbols etc. Should be a fun night. Thank you for the suggestions. Any other ideas before I start pulling stuff out of the cupboards? Happy holidays.
