I just finished reading several pages of posts to the thread about your most disappointing restaurants. I am really freakin about this!! Most of you said 3 of the restaurants I booked ADR at!! Whispering Canyon, Ohanas, and Chef Mickeys!! The only reason I even heard about these restaurants and booked them in the first place was because so many people here recommended them!!!!!! Now I don't know what to do. I have Chef Mickey's booked for my DS 5th b-day breakfast, Whispering Canyon for lunch one day, and Ohanas was going to be our last night dinner!!! I do not want to leave Disney with a bad taste in my mouth! Please let me know a better place to go with DH and DS!!!

Honestly no matter where you choose someone will say they hated it. Everyone has different tase. We eat at CM's and 'Ohana every trip. The food at CM isn't gourmet, but I don't think it's bad and your DS will have a ball.

It's funny, I was thinking the same thing after reading that thread!! We also have ADRs for Whispering Canyon and Chef Mickey's. But like dcgrumpy said, no matter which restaurant you choose there will be someone who had a bad experience there. Don't worry!! Just relax and enjoy. No matter what happens you'll have a great time :goodvibes

If it makes you feel any better we really enjoyed Whispering Canyon!! :thumbsup2 Have fun and keep an open mind...you might love them all!!

There are people who are disappointed in the Wilderness Lodge, Polynesian and Pop Century - 3 of my favorite resorts. Unless you see one restaurant over and over again, there isn't a reason to worry. I have had bad and good experiences at the same restaurants at Disney (my worst ever was probably at Artist Point, yet I've had great dinners there was well).

Go, have a great time and judge for yourself.

After reading all the rave reviews about Dole Whips and school bread, I HAD to try them.

:sad2: I disliked them both. My son wouldn't even eat the school bread. :lmao:

We enjoyed Chef Mickey breakfast. It was the only thing my DD said she "Must Do" on our trip this summer. DH and I also really liked 'Ohanas and plan to go there this trip also. So don't worry.

I liked the food at Whispering Canyon dinner (I had the roast chicken). But my family didn't like all the hijinxs. Especially DH.

I wouldn't worry about those reviews. Not everyones likes the same thing. What is bad to one is good to another. I have noticed this, a lot more with cruising since we do a lot of it, that people will say something is horrible just because it is "different" from the way they usually have it. That doesn't really mean that it was bad, they just didn't like it. Then you have some who complain about every little thing like they are just itching to find something wrong.
I have learned to take reviews on things with a grain of salt. Especially if you see plenty of good ones too.
We will be trying WCC when we go and possibly Chef Mickey's too!
Go for it. Have a great time.

I've read lots of good things about CMs and WCC. I've even found lots of bad reviews for some of the best reviewed places in the parks. In the end, if you don't like it, then don't go back. Everyone has different tastes and preferences and you'll see that.

We have enjoyed both Whispering Canyons, and Chef Mickey's. The biggest smile I've ever seen on DD8 was at WC watching her crazy mother and father ride around the restaurant on stick ponies singing happy birthday. :lmao: It was worth the humiliation to see her laugh. ...and quite frankly nobody there knew me anyway!

My kids really enjoyed CM for breakfast in 2004, so much so that they asked to go back agian this year. We're going to try dinner this time. We also did O'Hannas in 2004, and had a great time. I did look over the new menu and wasn't impressed with the offerings so we will probably skip it this time.

thank-you all who responded to my cry for help! :yay: I feel a bit better now. I think you are all right. I need to create my own experience and I picked these restaurants mainly for my 5yo son anyway. I know I will not be going to the fancy restaurants my DH and I so enjoy but I am hoping my DS has a wonderful time. Everyone tastes are different and like you said what is bad for one is great for another. Thanks again. I'll be sure to update everyone when we return

The key is to have realistic expectations. Every disappointment we've had has not been BAD food, its been decent food not living up to "Boma is SO wonderful, we HAVE to eat there EVERY TRIP!!!! EVERYONE in our family LOVES it!!! EVERYONE will find something they really like here!!!! The prime rib is the BEST!!!! And the desserts are to DIE FOR!!!!!

When you go with that in mind, the chances the restaurant will live up to it aren't great.

The only one of your restaurants we've been to is WCC. It was OK, not our best meal ever at Disney, but good.

I loved the character breakfast at Chef Mickey's!!!

I loved Ohana, but they have changed the menu, so DH and I elected not to eat there on our May trip.

I haven't eaten at Whispering Canyon, but will try to get an ADR for our September trip!

They all ran thumbs up about 3 to 1 over thumbs down in a national survey.

I think on this board, everything you can get from anywhere has been to die for and you'll die if you eat it at least 10 times. Look to reviews that give more specifics.

Ding Ding Ding. We've only had one truly bad table service meal at Disney counting both DL and WDW. We've had some that were disappointing because they just didn't live up to hype. I too had very low expectations of cm's but did it for the kid. I was totally pleasantly surprised.

Definitely create your own experiences. Not everyone likes the same things or has the same experience even at the same restuarants, even dining on the same date.

I have eaten at most all of the popular Disney restaurants and had great times at all. Sometimes we had less than stellar service and the food was just ok. But it was never enough to make us never want to return.

Enjoy your trip and the experience of sharing it with your son, the rest is just food. :thumbsup2

I'll echo what others have ssaid-- you have to go and judge for yourself. I think you are "safe" in that none of the places mentioned have exotic or highly specialized menus--so there is sure to be something for everyone.

I did not dislike any of the places you chose. They weren't my favorites, but certainly nothing wrong with them either! Hubby and the nieces and nephew thought O'hanas was the best food they'd ever had!

The problem w/ these boards is that you have a bazillion of opinions about things and you'll have people who like things and people that don't. Things get blown out of proportion alot of times. All of the places you said are probably just fine, true, some DO NOT like them and there are are plenty that do. I liked all 3 of the places just fine. Not fine enough to make sure we go back, but I'd recommend them. You likely won't go wrong!

Your post reminded me of a Disney dining moment my family had. We ate at King Stefan's Banquet Hall(now CRT) in 1994. I do not remember how the food tasted now all these years later. However, I do rememeber something that Cinderella did. As she came to visit the table, she sat down with my sisters and was just really sweet to them, telling them about her life as a Princess. She gave me and my younger brother kisses. Since my parents kept missing the kiss with the camera, she ended up kissing me twice and I kissed her once. What we all remember is when she tried to give my youngest brother(7 at the time) a kiss. He wanted nothing to do with being kissed by a girl, even a Disney Princess. Cinderella chased him around the table trying to kiss him. Do we remember the food? No, but we remember Cinderella chasing my brother around the table. He now says that this is one of the biggest regrets of his life. My point is that it doesn't really matter what the food tasted like as we won't forget that memory. So, enjoy your meals. The fun of seeing your son interact as he eats with favorite characters will be wonderful.
