Hello all! Me and my boyfriend flew in to Orlando today, got in at around 10:15. For starters, if anyone was thinking about using Thrifty car rental, DON'T!. First off we had to wait at the airport for almost 45 minutes for the shuttle. (it seemed like Hertz and Enterprize shuttles were there every 2 minutes) and when we got to the rental spot there was a line out the door with only 3 people working. The lady was also very rude and we ended up leaving and NOT renting from them because they tried to charge us over $100 more than our original quote. Anyways, were at the hotel now which is the Grosvenor. I promised I'd let everyone now how dumpy it was and there happens to be internet in the rooms so here I am. Surprise surprise, everything is awesome so far. The lobby is beautiful and the staff was very nice. ((I've read about everyone's past experiences so I was/am being pretty critical about everything)) We have a wing room, the tower was full. I was expecting dirt and broken toilets but everything is so far so good. Everything is very very clean, even the bathroom. So far it is really nice here. I was expecting the absolute worst from what Ive read. I'm very very impressed. I love the location - it's cloer to DD than any other of the DD hotels. This is my experience so far, I know everyones will be different, but it is very nice. The weather is great right now, lots of sun. I dont know what we're doing the rest of the day but tomorow I think we're doing MGM. We ate lunch at Wolfgang Pucks which was AWESOME. Anyways, I'm finally here and thanks to everyone who helped me on the way and showed me some great savings. I'll get back to ya'll later!! -shayen

I am sooo jealous. I live less than an hour outside of Pittsburgh and the weather here is awful. I hope you have a great trip!

UGH..........I AM SO JEALOUS TOO. I'M FREEZING HERE IN JERSEY TODAY. WISHING I WAS THERE!!!!!!

HAVE A GREAT TIME AND KEEP US POSTED WHEN YOU CAN.

GIVE MICKEY A HUG FOR ME.

Great to hear that your room is much better than you anticipated! Sorry you had a rough start w/rental car, but forget that now and enjoy your WDW trip! DTD is so much fun...enjoy your perfect location for it!

Pam

Thanks for the review!!!! I have the Grosvenor booked in a few weeks and have been really nervous about what I'll find there. We got our rooms through Pricline, so there's no refund. Thanks for giving me a brighter picture of the place!

:) Thanks for the review!Hope you have a great Trip!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

We've stayed at the Grosvenor before and loved it! Location is the best for DD! Each night we'd walk over to Ghiradelli's for an ice cream cone and enjoy a leisurely (short!) walk back to the hotel. We'll be staying at the Holiday Inn across the street for a few nights on our trip coming up the first week in May! Have a great time!

DaisyDuck.Sorry you had such a bad experience with Thrifty! I keep giving them high kudos for their service because we had an
excellent experience with them! Hopefully that was just a one time thing and something most people don't experience! But on a positive note so glad your at your hotel having a great time!!
Enjoy,Debbie

Glad you're enjoying your stay so far. I had read negative things about this hotel as well.

I enjoyed your "diary" so far!. I too will be checking in to see any updates!. It'll be fun to enjoy the WDW through your eyes! Tell us all! meals, attractions, everything! hee hee
enjoy:moped: I am sure you'll be on the go , but hopefully you will make time for a few minutes of update....:grouphug:

Finally, someone agrees with me!!! Yippee
I absolutely loved the Grosvenor and will only stay there on future trips.... Like you said- perfect location to DTD and for adults only, couldn't be more perfect. So excited to hear that even the "dreaded courtyard" rooms are spotless !!!

I'm so happy that things are great for y'all and am looking forward to more information on your trip.

I also like the Grosvenor! I've stayed here with terrific rates for the last 4 years. I'll be there again this June. Even with the resort fee I can get 2 rooms cheaper than 2 at the All Stars. I like their bus service, there's a fridge in the room, it's right there at Downtown Disney and best of all the resort is compact and doesn't require a long walk to get around. I've always had excellent and friendly service.

On second thought you don't want to stay at the Grosvenor! If more people start staying there they may not be offering such great rates. ;)

We've stayed at the Grosvenor also. Be glad you are not in the Tower. We got an upgrade last summer to a Tower room and it was a lot noiser in that part of the Hotel. We had a beautiful view but it seems as all the doors slamshut and it kept us up all night. There was also alot of noise in the hallway. We like the hotel but we will stay in the wings from now on. I hope you enjoy your stay:earsgirl:

Just wanted to let everyone know a possible source of good rates for off-site hotels. I wanted to stay at the Grosvenor so I didn't want to chance Priceline. I need two rooms so I was definitely looking for a great rate. I tried every site I've read about on this board and others. Someone mentioned the Orlando Magiccard. I did a search and was directed to www.orlandoinfo.com. You can sign up for the card at this site. If I remember correctly, when I signed up a list of specials popped up (or I was given a link) and found the Grosvenor for $59 per night. With the resort fee it's still cheaper than the code rate at the All Stars. The resort fee gets internet access and a refrigerator (and other things). I've stayed at the All Stars and the Grosvenor and I believe the rooms are larger at the Grosvenor. We all want to be near Downtown Disney so this works out great.

daisyduck - have you returned from your trip? How was it?

Carolyn

I am glad that the Grovsner is not as bad as many previous posts. I too had booked a room there but cancelled after reading disparaging reviews. I read that they were bankrupt and possibly closing. Please keep us up to date on your stay. I would love to hear some good commentary on this hotel.

We had a great experience. We got it on Priceline for $40 per night and I was very nervous. We had a room in one of the wings. I asked if they had a tower room available and they didn't until the next night, but we were VERY happy with our room. It was much better than I expected, very clean, not too small. The staff was nice and the pool area very nice, though it was too cool (not to mention we didn't have time) to go swimming.

Saturday morning we went to the Character breakfast at Baskervilles in the hotel and it was great. Pluto and Goofy were there. I had printed out a birtday card for my son from them and asked if goofy and pluto could sign it and give it to him. NOt only did they do that, but they brought him out a piece of cake with a candle and had the whole restaurant sing to him, it was really sweet. I had won a 50% off certificate for Baskervilles on ebay from restaurants.com and so our total bill was only $13 or close to that.

When I went to check out, their computers were down, so they said that they'd mail my receipt and that I had a balance of $66. Of course she couldn't tell me why because the computers were down. She took my cell phone number and said she'd call me as soon as they came back up, and what do you know, she actually did. I didn't expect to hear from them at all. She said we had 2 Baskervilles charges plus the resort fee. I told her no, we only ate there once. She said she'd pull the slips adn call me back and she found out that someone had accidentally wrote the wrong room number and charged food to our room. I was very pleased at how they handled it.

We would definately stay there again, it's a very nice hotel and the staff is great. It's great that its so close to Downtown Disney and that we were able to get it so cheap. I highly reccomend it.
