Hi! My name is Beth and I just found this board last night and I think it is a place for me!
I am a SAHM of two fabulous kiddos and I love to run. While preggo with DS4 I signed up for my first marathon, WDW 2007, and started training 2 days post-partum. Two more fulls and several halfs later I am registered for the Goofy Challenge in Jan! I would love a motivating group to get me through the tough training and maybe even someone to run the full with on Sunday! I also am thinking of running the Women's Half in St Pete Nov 21 and would love input on alums from that race.
Anyway, I am excited to get advice from more seasoned racers and share tips!
Beth
(I just realized, I need to change my siggy, we already went on that trip!)

Yes, you are in the right place. I'm not running in Jan., but some one will respond soon.
WOW! I'm impressed that you started training two days after having a child.
I plan one running the WDW full in 2012 with my DD-She will have just turned 21 and I''ll be 50 by then. I am also a SAHM (okay it took me a while to figure out what that meant, so I have to use it) for over 24 years. It took me a lot longer to start training after my children were born-14 years after my last one-LOL:rotfl2: But I love it too.
Good luck going Goofy!

Thanks! One of my secret dreams is to run a full with at least one of my kids. So excited for you!

Hello there Beth :goodvibes

You are absolutely in the right place - I ran my first Goofy in Jan (it was also my first full!!!) And I absolutely could not have done it without the help of my WISH friends.

I did the St Pete women's 1/2 last year. It was a nice race - it's like right by my house so it's where I run everyday, so from that point it wasn't that exciting for me personally (although it was by the water and through tropicana field - the rays stadium - so it's a nice run). The only thing I can say about the race is that the start was a little hectic - there was no corrals and since it was a race that had a long finishing time (18 min/mile) walkers were right up at the front in no hurry, and it was kinda hard to get around. However, it is soooo flat, I ran a PR :cool1: and the goody bag was one of the best I have ever had (pink crocs and many other things), and a pretty cool medal. So overall I would do this race again (I want to do it this year but I have a full the weekend after and don't know if I should). I hope this helps :goodvibes

So, welcome to the team. I am sure many more will come along and say hi. Good luck on the road to Goofy - believe me it's one you will never forget. And I will see you at the start and finish line (both days :thumbsup2)

Thanks! One of my secret dreams is to run a full with at least one of my kids. So excited for you!

Finishing races with my children is one of my favorite accomplishments. My son has done the Goofy with me for the last three years (at ages 18, 19 and 20) and last year my daughter joined us (at age 18). My son and I will be going for our 4th Goofy in 2011. My daughter, on the other hand, is retiring from Goofy Challenges.

We also do other "team races" together. My son and I have done all 5 of the Orlando Muddy Buddy races and the last Tower of Terror 13k and Race for the Taste 10k. This year will be adding the Wine and Dine Half.

My daughter and I will be doing our 3rd Expedition Everest Challenge in a week.

I didn't start running until my kids were well into High School and could get themselves to their own practices and events. I don't know how I would have had time to get them to Baseball or Football or Wrestling or Scouts or Softball or Cheerleading or Gymnastics or Soccer or Marching Band and still fit in training for a marathon.

Good luck balancing it all.

I have heard that there will be corrals this year to help with the start line. I won't be making the trip again, because I am in MD, but I thought it was a very well ran race. It is done by Track Shack, the same people at Disney, so they have the experience needed. The weather was warm last year and the Augusta blocks can be difficult to run on but I will do this race again.

I am so glad to hear it is a flat race. I might actually go for a PR instead of just enjoying the run! I am taking a Mom weekend to do the race by myself for the first time. I will need the break right before Thanksgiving craziness!

Yeah, it is crazy trying to get training in, but since I am home right now I try to run at odd times and push the kids in the stroller as much as I have to. DH is also a runner and a biker, so we can switch off solo workouts and it works for us now. I can see it getting trickier as the kids get older and more involved in activities:scared1:.

Wecome princess. Be warned that I'm the only normal person on here.

Hey Beth! Welcome to the WISH team! I did the women's half last year with my daughter. She, being 16, did it with zero training and finished ahead of me. Just not right ;) I had a rough time with the race last year, but I think that was me, nothing to do with the race at all. The expo was great...we met Kathrine Switzer and she signed my copy of her book. The medal is really cool! I like how it has the detachable part that you can actually wear and I can't wait to see the new design. I'll probably do it again this year since it's fairly local. If you're interested, there's also the Halloween Halfathon at Ft Desoto on Halloween. Great course...very flat, though they had a little problem of running out of medals at their race in March.

Welcome Beth! I have nothing but respect and admiration for you for doing this with small children. I didn't start running until DD was in high school, and now DH and I are empty nesters and enjoying running together and scheduling races whenever and wherever we want.

DH and I both did Goofy last year. It was an amazing experience, but not one that I think I'll repeat any time soon. We haven't decided yet if we're going to return for a race in January. DD, who's now 19, ran her first half marathon with us in May in Indianapolis, and she thinks she may need a Mickey medal!

The WISH team is amazing. I've met so many wonderful people here, and have been encouraged to keep running long past the first 5K I ran when I thought I would never, ever, run a half marathon, let alone a full.

Jackie - I am so excited to have found this group! The hours of running get so hard in the thick of the training and I am looking forward to having a bunch of fellow sufferers to commiserate!
Oh, and who doesn't need a Mickey medal?!?
