I hope you don't mind another newbie to the boards. I usually hang in the rewards board and the budget board but since the rewards board seems to have gotten a bit hijacked I'm exploring more of the DIS and found you guys.

So basically about me. I'm 25 and trying to lose 25-30 pounds. I have a lot of stress and anxiety due to work (its the field not the employer) so I've put on a good 25 pounds since starting August 2005. I had a pretty bad busy season January and February so the downward spiral just got worse.

I'm in the wake up and take action stage right now where I've finally a) realized my problem and b) started to do something about it but man is it hard. I either diet and not exercise or I exercise and don't diet. I'm in the heavy exercise and lightly diet phase. I know the best way to lose weight is to do both. I really like weight watchers so its just getting into the mindset of pointing out my day. I will say I've worked out and pushed myself for the past month and I actually can see and feel muscles but at the same time I'm gaining inches which is making me frustrated. I know I have to gain a little to lose but its hard to stay positive.

So I'm hoping yall can help me stay on the right path.

:welcome: to WISH, so glad you came exploring! I noticed you posting on some other threads here, so you probably noticed there are a lot of great people here with a lot of good advice. One thing I have learned with my many years of dieting is that I can't do this alone.....every time I try to do it alone I end up gaining, so I am a WISHer for life. The support and encouragement I find here help me along my journey and I hope it will help you too.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I use to love a ww board i went to but something happened and it just died so I've been half-way dieting/exercising ever since.

I noticed yall do challenges around here and I love those. I hope to start getting into those. Luckily I have a bf who is very supportive but since he has the slim gene he doesn't always understand my issues. He actually has the opposite problem of being scrawny if he doesn't eat right and exercise. So I guess in a way we are a great match since we will always have to exercise and eat right.

Welcome to WISH!

You have come to a wonderful place here on the boards and in your life. It certainly is a challenge to get it right with the being healthy.

I WISH you success in the plan you pick for making those healthy lifstyle changes.

Come often post lots. It does help to be accountable and to help others along the way.

Hi M'nC

I've definitely struggled with your problem of either exercising or eating well, but never the 2 together. At the end of the day, it is calories in must be less than calories out. However, you don't want to starve yourself, particularly since you are exercising & your body needs fuel.

Consider keeping an exercise journal documenting all of the great work outs you are getting in. If you are exercising a lot, are you allowing your body enough recovery time? I did this, then backed myself into eating better. If I am working this hard to be healthy, I felt more compelled to make healthy FUEL choices. To combat emotional issues, I try to think of food as FUEL.

Also, think if you are trying to sabotage yourself. We've all been our worst enemies. :goodvibes

Best of luck to you!

Thanks C leen. I drug back out my daily planner that I grabbed at work to track my food choices and exercise routines. I think I'm going to get a bit more detailed in what I'm doing when I exercise so that I can change it up and not get it a rut.

You know the funny thing about this struggle this time around is that I can sometimes feel myself sabotaging my efforts and I get upset about it and still do it. I have never be the sabotaging type either. I really need to get into the right psychological mind set for this as well. I need to allow myself that one cheat day and be accountable for sticking to this plan.

I think I'll just work on taking it one day at a time and making better choices and hopefully it will start to become easy and routine. Off to do my cardio for the day :)
