Pardon my silly question but what exactly is photopass? I get that they take pictures of you around the park but...

Do you have to register and sign up ahead of time and give them a ticket or something?

How much are pictures and do you get them electronically too? Are they a usable resolution?

How do you share a photopass?

Thanks!

Hi,

Welcome to DIS!

PhotoPass is a service offered to guests at the Parks. Throughout the Park there are Disney PhotoPass Photographers. They will take your picture free of charge. They will give you a PhotoPass card and scan it when they take your picture. This encodes your card with data that can connect you to your picture later via the internet or the PhotoPass kiosks at the Parks.

As you go through your day, week, visit at the Parks, you can hand your card to any PhotoPass photographer and when they take your picture they will add it to your card (You have them scan your card after each photographer takes your picture.)

When you return home, you sign on to Disney's PhotoPass web site (www.disneyphotopass. com), register, enter the code on your PhotoPass card and all the pictures you have taken (provided you gave your card to the photographer) will be on your account. You can preview them all. These are low resolution small images.

You can edit, crop, and add fun Disney borders to all of your pictures and save the new edited photo to your account. You can then order prints of any of your pictures and receive high quality prints. You can make a photo album, photo mugs, and many more products from www.disneyphotopass .com. Also, you can buy ALL of your pictures (along with the rights to them) by purchasing a PhotoPass CD. Now matter how many images are on your CD, the DLR CD is $60 and the WDW CD is $100 IF you do the pre-order special, $120 otherwise. The images you will receive on your CD are very high resolution, print quality.

A PhotoPass Share
Some people will group together with others and all place their photos into one online PhotoPass account, order one CD with EVERYONE'S pictures on it, and split the cost accordingly.

HTH,
Dreams

So is there any charge to the PP card?

No. There is no charge to have your pictures taken, get them put on card for viewing, or viewing them online. Costs only come into place when/if you decide to purchase any photos or products.

Ooh thanks!

Also, before they started doing Photopass, they used to have a system where you'd get a photo shot, and you'd head to Main Street to pick up a print. Do they still have that?

And do all CM photographers do Photopass? Or just a select few?

Another suggestion is to take a sharpie and either write your name on the front of the card or a sticker or some other way to identify your card, alot of times there are a few people giving their cards to the photographer and it can get confusing trying to figure out which one is yours. I imagine it would be frustrating getting home and logging into the website to find that half the pics belong to another family!

Again....just a friendly suggestion! :goodvibes

You can still buy prints on Main St. as well as in DCA. Also, if you have a Disney Visa you can do the special Meet 'n Greet at DCA (opens 1/2 hr. after park opens, runs for 1-1/2 hours.) where you will get private time with either Pluto or Chip and Dale and a coupon/ticket good for one free 5 x 7 print. That deal, along with free stroller rentals and DLR is enough for some people to get a DV. :goodvibes

No, not all the CM are PP photogs. You will see them out at certain spots, with their cameras, offering to take pix. You can also have them take pix of you using your own camera. There are many special enhanced pix that the PP photogs can take, only using their cameras. They can add in Tink, Stitch, Mickey, Minnie, Soarin', Hook, & Darth.

I write my phone number on my card as well as taking a picture of it, just in case (cel phone or dig. cam) If you write on it then when the PP photog hands it back to you you'll know you got the right one back. :)

Here's a few of the enhanced ones you can get.

so the photopasses are $60 if you preorder them , but can you still add all the goodies from home to get this price?
also how do the photgrapehers know to get the enhanced ones?

Don't look at the photos at DL take the card home and upload them to Disney Photopass.com. There you have a month to mess with them and add borders and even upload your own photos and add borders to them. Sometimes you can go in on anothers photopass ( you log in under their screen name and pass word) and you share the cost of the CD. It's very good resolution and you can hve lots of fun with it.

The DLR PP is $59.95 plus shipping ($66.95). There is no pre-order on DLR. WDW has a pre-order discount. Yes, you can add the enhancements when you get home. You have 30 days to upload your card(s) and then another 30 days from upload date to order your CD (or other items). There aren't as many enhancements on the website as are in the park but there are some nice ones. Most of the characters do have their autographs on the. Also, the site changes enhancements every so often so you may get an enhancement right now that in a few weeks will be gone. For example, there are still some Christmas enhancements availabe but they should be leaving soon. Also there isn't a nen 2009 stylize date yet. Hopefully it'll be coming soon. There is however a 2009 DL and DCA logo, as well as 2008 is still there. Once you save a picture with an enhancement you will get it on your CD even if the enhancement is removed from the site before you order.

Some of the PP Photogs will ask you if you want o take a "Magical"shot. Or you can ask them if they take any. Hook and Darth are only at DL and Stitch and Soarin' are only at DCA. There are 2 different Stitches.

BTW you can look at your pix while at DLR (it won't affect your upload at home) but none of the enhancements the park may do for you will stay on the pictures. Also it's a good idea to check to make sure special ones show up. Recently we have had Hook and Darth be a no-show. Pictures disappeared into never neverland. :scared:

For Hook and Darth ask at the Photopass store at the end of Main St. to see if they are doing them that day, and at what times.

I have never seen the Soarin over the Bridge one when did you get it? That one is neat. I have one where I am pointing at the ground and Stitch is popping up through the cement but not the other one. Boo I want it!

They do Soarin' at the entrance to DCA (on either side of the bridge. ) Also you can face the other direction and have the sunwheel behind you. I didn't know about the Soarin' one 'til I read about in on these boards. Now I always ask for it. Also, on these boards I found out that you can get Stitch (coming out of the ground) over by the back side of GRR waterfall as well as Stitch eating ice cream, and Mickey, and Minnie.

I'm trying to get as many PP at DCA as I can before everything changes.

How do you share a photopass?

Thanks!

Did someone answer how you share a photopass? It sounds like it would have to be someone going within 30 days of me. So if my brother is going in the summer and I'm going in November would that work?

Watch the boards and see if anyone asks if people want to go in together on a Photo Pass share around certain upcoming dates.

I am not clear on if there is a share, how do you get all your pictures on the same account as everyone else? If they give you your own Photo Pass card, how do you make sure it gets in on the share? (does that make sense? I'm not sure how to articulate it!!) :confused3

PhotoPass Share 101

1. Find people you are going to do the share with. They need to attend the park relatively around the same time as you are since your photos stay on your card for 30 days and on the web site for another 30 from date of input.

2. Everyone goes on vacation and takes PhotoPass pictures.

3. ONE person from the PhotoPass Share (PPS) sets up an account on the PP web site. The sign in information is given to everyone in the PPS.

4. Each person signs on to the account and enters their PP card(s) number(s).

5. Each person edits and enhances their photos on the account.

6. PPS main contact orders the PP CD.

7. Everyone sends the PPS main contact money (the cost of the CD divided by X).

8. PPS main contact receives CD, makes copies, mails them to everyone in the PPS.

Important Notes:
- You and everyone in the PPS receives everyone's photos.
- You are trusting everyone who signs on to the account not to edit, delete, alter your pictures.
- You cannot enter your PP code into any other PP account. (So if you want to order additional products, you MUST do it through the shared account.)
- Timing matters. (Pictures remain on PP card from the park for 30 days from date taken. Pictures remain on website 30 days after being input for the first time.)
- You CAN combine WDW and DLR pics on one PP account, but the almost-for-sure theory is that the CD will cost the WDW price.
- People quite often post on the Budget Board when looking for a PhotoPass share (usually for WDW though).

Hope this helps,
Dreams

No, it wouldn't work. Your brother only has 30 days to claim (upload) his pix. Then another 30 days to place an order. So, the longest time you'll have is 60 days from date first pix is taken. Last year, towards the end of the end they offered a special deal where if you order any one item from the PP website then they gave you an extra 30 days to order. I order stickers (the cheapest item) for $12.95 (inc. shipping) to get an extra 30 days. Don't know if they'll offer that deal again this year.

One person organizes the share and sets up an account along with a password on PP website. Then sharers are provided with account info (after their $$ is received) so they can upload and edit their photos on organizers account. The organizer orders the CD(s) and then burns copies of your family and sends you the CDs. The cost is divided among how many participate, plus mailing costs.

That's the basics.

Added-not everyone has to receive everyone's pictures. That is up to the PP organizer. When I did mine last faill I only copied each familes pictures to their disc. Each family did receive one original disc (I had 5 with my order) but that was more so they could each have an original disc. Some organizers will burn all pictures but many will just send you yours. In the fall of 2007 I participated in a share and my organizer handled it the same way. Every got mostly only their own familiy pix. I'm doing one right now for end of Jan., first week of Feb. at DLR and I'll will only be sending participants their pictures.

Some organizers are more restrictive than others. Some will only give you a small window of when to upload and edit your pix. Others don't. I found out last Fall/Winter that at first the photos in my account were organized by date upload, but before I ordered my CD the site re-organized them into date taken order so that my family pictures where interspersed with the other famiies (we were at WDW at the same time with some overlapping days.) I think they did it that way to make sure my DLR pix were the last ones taken since your last pictures determine how much you pay. WDW or DLR price.

Thank you for the "Dummies Guide to Photo Pass"!!! :flower3:

That answered all my questions. And thank you to all of you who share your Disney knowledge! It is very much appreciated. :cheer2:
