I just wanted to take a moment to say "Hi" and "Wow!" I just found out about and joined DIS and must say love the wealth of information, etc that is here.
We are also new DVC members. We joined in March while on a cruise on the Magic (the best vacation I've ever had), and recently returned from our 1st trip to Disney as DVC members (Aug 31-Sep7). We stayed at OKW, even though our home resort is BCV (we wanted to have a one bedroom and still have points left for something else before our use year was up.) I must say we walked into the one bedroom apt and said "Oh my goodness! Our first apartment was smaller then this!" And ya know it really was! I esp loved the whrilpool tub, but after litterally spending 2 days in the jaccuzi on the cruise no one was surprised when I told them that. They where surprised that the tub was big enough for 2 comfortably, but not that I could have spent my whole vacation there.
We initially took the DVC tour/etc on our first visit to Disney in 2000. We where staying in the WL, and at the time they where saling for the VWL, we fell in love there and the only thing that kept us from signing up on the spot was a dead beat roommate we had yet to offically get rid of. Things had settled down enough by the time we went on the cruise I had pretty much talked myself into joining DVC, but still kind of leery of laying down that big sum of money. I talked to the DVC CM's on board ship and they said that VWL had sold out in like 18 months, I was heartbroken, but that also pushed me over the edge. They where pre-saling BCV and I just said "sign me up!" I think it was the easiest sale he had all trip, he didn't even have to go through his usual speel. I had never been over to see the Beach Club or even the Boardwalk area, but it was on Disney property so I wasn't worried. On our trip earlier this month we did go to the open house at the BCV and then took a tour again at DVC and I must say my "non-worry" status was completely justified.
Since joining I must say I only have a few regrets. 1. I had never heard or "resale" and didn't know that I could have bought into where I really wanted, VWL. 2. I bought 150pts on the cruise in March, and then for my b-day in May I bought another 50. I should have bought the whole thing one the curise, cuz it would have saved me more money. It's my fault though so I can't complain... it's just a regret.
3. I didn't join sooner!!!
One of the things I found that also helped me make my choice to by was talking to Disney Store and WDW CM's that where also members of DVC. With the discounts they get (esp WDW CM's) the fact that they joined and still think it's a great deal made me want in that much more. I have to admit that I too and a part time DS CM, and love all things Disney (esp Tigger, and now Stitch!), and now I'm an owner at The World!!
Anyway I've babbled enough for now. I really just wanted to say "Hi" and thanks for all the great information etc. Sorry if I babble to much!
Oh..and one question... is there a place where one can get a translation for all the abbreviations used on the board, and instructions on the counters? I think I've figured out most, but no I'm missing some, and haven't figured out the counters at all!
Thanks!
