Seriously, I'm wishing a POX on Ivan's house if he comes to yours. Nobody likes him; everybody hates him. Why can't he just understand that?

We dodged a bullet with Ivan! We aren't out of the woods but I can see the green meadows from here. The kids got out of school again yesterday and I even got off work. I wanted to go to USO but the kids said if we did the hurricane would follow us again and totally annihilate the parks. I promised the kids if Ivan didn't do any damage that I would take them to HHN and do the VIP Tour. It probably would have cost me less if Ivan would have hit us.
I'm praying for those from New Orleans to the panhandle. This reminds me of Camille.

Well my heart went out to all of you that dealt w/ the other hurricanes, my sister lives in Orlando so I was so worried about her and my nephews.

However, hopefully IVAN will change course but it looks like we here in South Alabama will be having it rough come Thursday. WALMART was unreal yesterday and I am not on the coast we are about 1 1/2 hours up. Hopefuly it will weaken ALOT by the time it gets here, but landfall somewhere on our coast is inevitable I think.

Any last minute suggestions? My children are my 2 dogs, I hope it doesn't freak them out too much.

This is a rare occurance around here, I hope everyone is prepared.

Hopefully you have some of the following items:

-A propane or charcoal grill, plus the propane or charcoal needed for it.

-Macthes/lighters.

-Flashlights & batteries.

-A small, battery operated alarm clock, radio, and/or TV.

-Enough food & water to last for at least 3 days.

-Bring anything from outside inside.

-Do all your washes now.

-Make yourself a lot of ice. Get some freezer bags, fill them with the ice in your ice maker. Allow your icemaker to refill, then put more ice in more bags. If you don't have an ice maker, then just fill the freezer bags, or any tupperware you may have, with water and put it in your freezer.

My black lab went gray overnight from Charley so keep them with you in whatever room you hunker down in.
If you can get a battery powered fan you might appreciate it if you lose power.
Freeze water in milk jugs and fill the tub so you'll be able to flush.
You are in my prayers. We have dodged the bullet because it is said that God has a condo in Naples.

Thanks so much for your suggestions, we got alot of that stuff yesterday. I guess my husband's gas grill he got for his bday will come in handy.

I went today and bought treats, rawhides, and squeaky toys for my babies. I know they are going to FREAK. My husband works in IT at a local hospital and they told him to bring a bag in case they are required to stay to keep the systems up. The pups and I will just ride it out and play solitare by candlelight.

Not by candlelight!!! Flashlight!

Candles are recommended against because with the hurricane winds, if any wind started getting in your house, it could not only blow out the flame, it could instead knock the candle elsewhere and start a fire. And if you gave gas in your house and it starts leaking, that candle could become a blaze!

Obviously, the odds of this happening are very low, but it has happened in the past. Candles = bad. Flashlights = good.
