Hello...I'm new here and I have some questions

Hi,
My Name is Roxanne and I am new to the Disboards. I actually joined a couple of weeks ago but have been to shy to post until now. Me and my family are taking our first trip to WDW in May and are completely thrilled. We are staying at the Pop Century from the 12th -19th. Our 12th Anniversary is on the 11th of May so we are celebrating that along with a couple of birthdays. My Dh birthday is on May 19th and I really want to surprise him with a birthday cake or something special. Can anyone suggest a good "Birthday" restaurant that I can order a cake from? I have looked on the "Birthday/Anniversary thread, but still am confused about what is good and what I need to avoid. Also my Dd Birthday is two weeks after we leave WDW so I am thinking that maybe we could celebrate a little early and have a birthday cake for her as well? She is going to be turning 7...any ideas on a fun place to take her to celebrate? We also have a 4 year old Ds who is Autistic so I hoping not to overwhelm him. Thanks for all your help.

Hi there and welcome to the Dis!

I happened to be at Disney with my niece when she was turning 5 one year. That was my only Birthday experience at Disney. Remember to find the location in each park and get the Birthday button.

We did Crystal Palace for breakfast, they made a little fuss over the birthday as I recall. Also Liberty Inn did a decorated table with confetti and a special birthday cupcake. Also did the Ice Cream social at Epcot instead of Lunch that day. It was very nice also.

Sorry I don't have much to add. You could probably search these boards to find out how to get your room decorated in the birthday motif. Possibly if you call the front desk, they can arrange for a cake to your room. I think I read this somewhere. Anyone know if this is true?

I know you can order a cake form the park somewhere. For you DD I would do a princess dinner and have her wear a button with her birthday on it she will get special attention.

For you son let him do what he is comfortalbe with. Would he like a stroller so he can be secure and ride. There are lots of quiet spots all over the park if he needs quiet time as well. Is there something small he likes to hold that makes him feel secure maybe have the tied to him. I have worked wiht autistic kids and they love textures certain balls or fabrics.

I know if you call one of the restaurants you're dining at directly and tell them you're celebrating birthday dinners they can set stuff up for you. I think it's at least 24 hours in advance, but I'd say with Disney- the sooner the better! I know at Coral Reef they can do a diver holding a birthday sign in the tank. Those book up fast, but worth a try!

A Happy Early Birthday to all and anniversary as well.
I am going to WDW in June for the frist time, for my 21st birthday.
Since I have never been beofore I am afraid I am not much to help you.
For my birthday I plan on getting the park buttons from each park, and than I made reservations at 1900 Park Fare for dinner, and I am going to order myself a mini castle cake, nothing wrong with spoiling yourself once in a while.

I hope all turns out well for you, and you have an enjoyable time while experiencing the magic of Disney.

Almost every sit down restaurant at Disney will do something special for a birthday. We've celebrated both my niece's and nephew's birthdays a number of times while visiting WDW. The Garden Grill in The Land Pavilion at EPCOT might be okay for your son. There aren't as many people in the restaurant as say a Chef Mickey's. It rotates very slowly and is a character lunch/dinner. I'm not sure they still have it but they also had an ice cream social type of thing in the afternoon. I remember that Chip & Dale and Pluto are there...maybe Mickey also.

Be sure to investigate the special pass available to your family since you have a child who is autistic. Let me be quick to say that I know very little about autism (my daughter has a few nephews who are autistic) and I know autism can vary dramatically from person to person. I do know if you provide proof (i.e., doctor's letter) to guest services, you can get a pass which will allow whatever accomodation is needed to make your visit "magical"--even if it means you go to the head of the line.

I think the UG had a sample letter which gave an idea of what the doctor could say.
