 Hi y'all! I've been a lurker for the past couple months. I decided today I'd take the plunge and register and here I am! lol Can't you tell I'm just so excited to be here? :woohoo:

A bit of background: I'm a 43 yr old mother of two adult (24 & 21) children, with 1 dsil. DH and I have been married 21 yrs and he's a non-Disney person. :sad2: I'm also disabled, although I prefer to think of it as differently-abled. Yes, I use a cane to walk short distances and use a power chair when a lot of walking is required, but I can do anything when I put my mind into doing something. :)

I've been to WDW twice, 1978 and 1980, so it's been a loooonnngggg time and I'd love to go again, but here's my dilema, the dh is absolutely not interested. Any advise for helping a non-interested party in becoming interested? Or should I just give up and plan a trip just for the kids and myself for one of these days?

Any ideas would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

First of all WELCOME!!

I think it is kind of hard to convert a non disser. Although with a ton of work I have done it with my DH!! So it can be done. If your kids are willing to go with you and your DH is willing to let you go I say go for it.:goodvibes

Hello and Welcome!
I would have to say that a non fan can be a fan. Disney World and/or Land is more than theme park rides. There are so many things to do at Disney. You can take all kinds of tours, cooking classes, art classes, golf, fishing, swim, boat rides and all kinds of water craft, there are lots of good places to eat, shows, e.g The Hoop dee doo Review... (fun show with good down-home cookin' like fried chicken, corn bread, tossed salad... drinks are included even some wine and beer) Massages and spa treatments at world class spas... I mean there is lots more... I haven't even mentioned all the things a person can do. I do believe there is something for everyone. As far as you getting around... you will do great. I hear them talking about accessibilty on the disunplugged podcasts all the time. Stay well and good luck getting your non disney soon-to-be fan on board.
Peace,
Carla Rae:flower3:

I can relate to his position, along long time ado, I was of that nature. It was the commando trips, too short of stays felt like it wasn't worth the effort to go. The solution for us, longer stays, our stays are now 9-12 nights and no more commando, we've done 42 trips so far and I've, being the husband, have been on every single one. We can totally relax, blow some days at the resort and casually stroll the parks without the, "I got to get it all done" philosophy. Trips are alot easier and when we check in we're actually moving in. We hit a park, stay for a few hours, back to the resort for picnic pool lunch and some sun, then head out later in the evenings. WhatI like, in all our trips, no rental car, totally on Disney's dime. If I can be converted anyone can, try to go without me, I'm the one always saying we need another trip. Good luck!

all for the warm welcome! And the hope that someday I'll be able to convert my non-DISer! :thanks:

In the meantime, I'm going to keep reading here and dreaming of my perfect getaway! I'm not going to give up trying to convert him to my way of thinking. ;) Maybe if I plan something out and get it on paper, he'll surprise me. I never know with him sometimes.

Have a wonderful day! :wave2:

Welcome to the Dis from N.E. Ohio! It's a rare day up here, we can see the sun!

I just wanted to say welcome to DISboards and may you have a great time, have fun and enjoy in your upcoming trip. Looking forward in hearing more from you after you came back.

Have a nice and safe trip coming. :)

I totally understand how you feel. I've got a non-Disney lover in my family, too. She prefers to stay at home while the rest of us goes to a Disney park. :sad2: Like one of the previous poster said, there are a lot of other things for the non-Disney lover in your family to do in and around the WDW resort. Have a great time on your trip!

Welcome to the DIS. We're from Columbus too and planning our first trip to WDW as a family. It took a lot of convincing to get my husband to say that it was ok, but with the buy 4 get 7 deal, he couldn't refuse. He was so cute when I told him that we were going for a week. He actually asked "What in the world are we going to do at Disney for a week?" Isn't that cute?
Hope you can convince the DH. I think it will be time and money well spent.

Hello from a married chick with MS from Akron Ohio! Welcome to the boards! I talked my husband into WDW one year and now he's hooked. He really likes staying at the resorts. Would it help to tell DH that the room fridge chills beers quite nicely?

I got the most pleasant surprise the other day. I need to give y'all the background a bit so ya know how things went down.

The dh decided to take motorcycle ride since it was a nice day and we were due for some rain for the next couple days. The 21 yr old was watching TV and I was just puttering around the house for a bit. I've been a little on the down side after finding out I have to have surgery again so I've been trying to keep myself busy.

The follow conversation took place:

Son: "Mom, wanna go with?"

Myself" "Wanna go with where?"

Son then points remote at tv and rewinds to the beginning of the Disney free dining commerical and says "There".

At this point, all I can do is look and stare at him. He repeats his first question "Wanna go with?".

I then did the dumbest thing of my life....

I was going to jump up and down, but caught my foot on the rug in the kitchen, started to fall, grabbed for the counter top, missed it with my hands, but did connect with it....with my nose.

2 hours, an ER visit, and broken nose later, dh and son asked how I was doing and through my tears and laughter, all I could think to say was.....

"I'M GOING TO DISNEY!"

:rotfl:

Wow!! I'm sorry about your broken nose.....but, YEA! You're going to Disney World!!!!:goodvibes:cool1::thumbsup2:banana:

P.S. My DH isn't into Disney like I am and I am only able to get him to go with us about every 5-8 years or so....so, the kids & I just go without him most of the time!! He's not going on our June WDW trip, but he's going to fly down and meet us for our Universal part of our vacation....

P.S.S. I'm also here in Central Ohio!!:goodvibes
