Hi, my name is Gillian (guess the board name kinda helps there lol). I live in Ontario, Canada and I've been to Walt Disney World 3 times (once when I was 16, again for our honeymoon and again about 12 years ago) and Disneyland once about 6 years ago

Earlier this week, I was able to talk my husband into changing our summer vacation plans (we were going to go for a low key vacation to Lake George, NY) to a trip to Disney World! This will be our 4 yo sons first trip there. I'm so excited!! :banana:

We'll be there for 9 days/8nights at the end of August/early September and staying at Caribbean Beach because I wanted to get my son the Priate Theme room, he's pretty pumped!

I'm having a ton of fan planning and so far I have booked several character meals and done enough research to figure out where I want to be on each day. We got a 5 day park pass and will also be spending 2 days offsite (Universal Studios and some other stuff).

I've been lurking around the board all week and figured it was time to say hi!

I think you need to be my new best friend. We do Lake George when we don't do Disney. And we leave for Disney in 39 days!!!

One suggestion I'll make right away: at the top of the Disney for Familes forum here, there's a thread about Fairy GodMailers. (It might be labeled "FGM") Look through the last few pages and find someone who's going right away.

Here's how it works: once you have enough posts, you ask someone going soon to send a postcard from Disney to your son, anticipating your visit. (You can let them know if, say, he's a big CARs fan-- they'll try to get a postcard they think he'll like.) You, in turn, offer to "pay it forward" by doing the same for someone else when you go.

A few other things;
-invest in either dollar store or Walmart ponchos. August is pretty notorious for afternoon storms.
- hit www.gardengrocer.com or www.wegoshop.com (both have great reputations.) Have some basic park snacks delivered, along with a case or 2 of water. No need to pay park prices for water.
- invest in a few water misters. (We like the Mistymate personal misters; you can get them at amazon.) They make a HUGE difference in the August heat.
- bring a stroller for you son. I know that at home he's too old. In Disney in August, you and he will both be soooo grateful you have it!!! And by bringing it, instead of renting it, you both save money and have access to it in the airport.

Get your post count up, and have a fabulous time!!!

Thanks for the welcome and tips!

I've rented a stroller through Magic Strollers (a tip from a friend who also suggested I check out DisBoards).

I'm really having fun planning, even if I don't end up following the plan to a T. With a 4yo in tow, I know he'll end up leading the way.

Thanks for the add: Trip set for March to WDW, MK.... I'm a newbie & not really sure how all this works but any Tips would be greatly appreciated also. I have reservations for Cinderella's Table ;)
