Hi everyone,

Just wanted to say hello to my fellow Canadians :)

For those of you in lower BC, do you prefer to fly from Vancouver or Seattle?
Anyone been able to find an airline with decent rates from Vancouver (to Orlando that is)?

I hate that we have to pay so much more to fly from YVR, when only a few hours drive away across the border it is so much cheaper!

I would prefer to fly from YVR but sadly Seattle it is. We fly out Sept. 15. I just got airfare for $350. Return including taxes. Cheapest I found out of YVR was just over $600. It is rather ridiculous the price difference. I would much rather support my own economy, but..... even with the gast and one night hotel (free parking at hotel for the week) it's still MUCH cheaper to fly 5 of us from Seattle than YVR.

I'm flying out of YVR in Aug on points, a luxury for us! Usually it's Seattle. Can't beat the price, even with hotel both ways.
We hotel the night before because we take the 6AM flights to get there at a decent time. Stay near Southcenter Mall at Marriott Towneplace Suites- parking is free, then stay again when we return because just too tired to make the 3 hr drive home. Would rather start fresh in the morning.
Last Jan we paid $279 RT incl tax. That's the lowest fare we ever found, usually it's around $325ish.

We used points the last time we went and I am still not sure the savings was worth the hassle. We had to transfering in Toronto so that meant doing customs there. (Picking up baggage mid trip, etc.)

What hotel do you stay at in Seattle? We are doing the Coast Hotel but it's $189 for the night. Includes parking and airport shuttle, but still. If I can find something cheaper..... We are doing the 5:40am flight to get in at a decent time same as you, so driving is Not an option with 2 teens and 4 year old.

Yeah, I figured Seattle was the best price, just hoping someone knew of a secret way to get cheaper yvr fares I guess, lol.

We have gone out of seattle to MCO and just drove down really early in the morning and use parking at the airport.

I signed up for the Alaska Airmiles CC so that my niece could fly for $99 (companion rate) and added in the $75 annual fee and it was still cheaper than any other airline and it was a direct flight. I added in my airfare and divided by 2 so that it was a fair comparison.

We flew out of Seattle for the direct flight and airfare savings. We stayed at the Best Western Executel. Took the shuttle in the am after a yummy free breakfast. My mom and sister stayed and then headed home. They came and got us using the shuttle and we stayed the night again on the return as it was rather late when we landed in Seattle.

Had enough points from that flight and the start up points to get 2 one way tickets from LA-Bellingham. Still have some points left.

We never fly out of YVR (we're in South Surrey) - the dramatic price difference between flying out of YVR versus flying out of SEA is just too much not to! We are flying to WDW in September - return direct flights for four of us for about $1900 total. There are no direct flights from YVR and the non-direct flights cost twice as much! It's no wonder almost everyone we know flies out of Bellingham and/or Seattle LOL

Sorry, no secret way that I'm aware of LOL Also, MasterPark is a fantastic service if you don't want to pay airport parking or get free hotel parking. We use them every time - http://www.masterparking.com - they always have coupons on their website too! :goodvibes

last time i went to Orlando in feb we went out of YVR but usually we go from Seattle only because of the price

We just got great flights out of YVR to LAX for our trip to DL. It was cheaper than Seattle or Bellingham when we included the ferry/ clipper cost plus the extra night in a hotel to make the earlier cheaper flights. Flying out of YVR is still MUCH cheaper than YYJ. If I was planning a family vacation and was flexible with dates I would not hesitate to do Seattle or Bellingham.

It also might be worth mentioning that we don't need a hotel night when we fly out of SEA, as we're 10 minutes from the border and prefer night/red-eye flights

we used to prefer Seattle but lately we're finding we don't save as much any more and our favourite nonstop red eye isn't running. If the savings return we'll go back to Seattle flights but if the savings remains at only $200-300 total between us it's not worth it.

If you're talking about the 9:45pm direct red-eye flight, it's back!

I've tried a couple times to find the alaska red eye non stop and don't see it on any dates I've researched

That's the flight we booked for late September :goodvibes I hope you'll be able to find it if you're still interested in taking it - that's definitely our preferred flight!

The first time I went to WDW we flew out of Seattle. We had to get up at 4am and drive the 3 hours down there and on the way home we landed at 9:30pm and had to drive the 3 hours back getting home at 1am PST (4am EST).

The last time I went we checked the difference and it was only $75 each so we flew out of YVR.

My next trip (this Sept) I am flying out of YVR again. I didn't even look at the pricing out of Seattle.

For me the driving is not worth it. I will pay extra to fly out of YVR.
