I am new to the boards and looking to plan a trip sometime in 2012. How early is too early to start planning?

Can someone tell me how far in advance I can book a hotel? I am still trying to decide if I want to rent points from a DVC member or just book my own room. I must admit that is looks mighty attractive to stay at a deluxe resort with the pricing of a moderate or value, but I am a little nervous about the trust I have to put in someone else and the fact that I will not be able to cancel or change the reservation using rented points.

I figure if I start reading up on everything now, I should be able to make up my mind before I have to choose. :confused3

Anyhoo, I am looking forward to reading everything I can about Disney on these boards! I have been to WDW twice - once as a child and again back in 2004 with my husband, step-son and daughter. I am really excited about getting back there next year! :yay:

There is a plethora(big word of the day) of info on here!

You can book usually one year in advance to the dates you would like to travel!!!

I never have rented points from DVC members, I am thinking about looking into it more than I have, however, it may just be cheaper for me and my family to book a family suite at a value resort!

I am patiently waiting for Sept./Oct. because thats is the time of year that I usually go. We love the Halloween party. Was thinking about Christmas, but, idk i heard last December was pretty darn cold and since I am from CT/RI I dont want to go to Florida and deal with more cold!!!

:welcome:

As for Dec being cold, remember cold is 30's at WDW.

Lots of information here, and most if not all of it good. If you do rent points just remember that you might actually want to become a DVC member after staying in the resort.

Have a great time planning and it's never to early to plan a WDW VK. No place like it on earth.

The 2012 WDW Resort rates and packages will be available in August 2011.

As for renting DVC points, it can depend on the number in your party and how much space you need. We are a family of 6, so we always get two connecting rooms at a value resort. I've looked into renting points and it's about double the cost of us getting two rooms. So renting points was not a cheaper option for us. Also, if you rent DVC points you can not qualify for promos like Free Dining. That's also a deal breaker for us since we pretty much rotate all of your yearly trips around free dining now - it just saves us too much money to pass by.

Actually December temps can vary greatly - anywhere from freezing to hot. We went mid-December 2008 and the highs were in the 80s everyday we were there. We went this past December, during the same time frame, and it was VERY cold. Four of the days we were there the HIGHS were in the upper 30s and it was in the teens at night.
