First off I wanted to say hello to everyone in my new home - The Cooking, Crafting and Scrapping board!

Due to reorganization within the DIS of the Moderators, Baloo and Pumba have moved to new assignments within the DIS. I want to thank them for all their hard work they did on the CCS Board and I am sure that all of you appreciate everything they put into this board. :) I'm sure they will still be spending plenty of time visiting though! :)

For those of you that do not know me, let me introduce myself!

My name is Lauri, a nickname for Laureen. I'm usually only called that when I'm in trouble ;). I started on the DIS back in 2000 under a joint screenname with my husband Matthew (Obi-Wan Pinobi - Transportation and Tech moderator). About 5 months after joining the DIS, my husband and I became chat hosts for the Thursday night Pin Collecting Chat. Several months after that we were promoted to Collectors Board Mods.

During the big move of the DIS from Infopop to VBulletin, my husband and I decided to get our own screennames - well, mostly because people were getting mad because they had no idea which one of us they were talking to ;). I couldn't come up with a "clever" name for myself with the exception of Mean Laureen which is a family nickname given to me out of my love of practical jokes. I was worried it would sound too mean for a moderator but apparently most of the rest thought it was funny and encouraged me to go with it :).

Since then, I have spent the last 2 years as a Community Board moderator as well as staying on the Collectors Board. When the reorganization happened and they allowed me to chose a new home, I thought that this looked like a creative, friendly and fun place to put down new roots. :)

A little about me as to the board subject ;) I'm a crafter from the time I could walk. I always wanted to "make something". My specialty right now is beading. I also do flower arranging, glass painting, and any other craft at least once ;). I'm also an artist that specializes in pencil, watercolor and acrylics. At one time in my life, I used to do portraits of people's pets for them. The only craft I never was able to get the hang of was the crafts involving yarn. I end up with a tangled mess! :teeth: I have attempted scrapbooking in the past but haven't had much time to follow up on it. Cooking at one point was a huge passion for me but work has kept me from being able to do much experimenting with it. I bet this board will be inspiring me to try out some new dishes though!

So.. that's me in a nutshell!

I would really love to hear from you guys! Tell me about yourselves - when you joined the DIS, what crafts you like to do, are you a scrapbooker? What kind of cooking do you love to do?

Spill people!!!

I think I will join you over here
looks like a great place to learn some new stuff :teeth:

and for those who don't Know her MeanLaureen is anything but mean
she is a great person

 Hi & welcome Lauri! I think you'll love your new home - this is such a nice group here! :teeth: I've often read your posts on the CB and don't think your screen name fits at all! ;)

I first joined the DIS before our 2nd family trip - looking for those elusive codes, bargains & tips on getting the most out of our trip. My sister, MsSocks, told me about the DIS & it wasn't long before I became addicted. Back then I hung out on the Trip Planning boards.

About 3 weeks after our trip, DH & I both got laid off and I suddenly had a lot more time on my hands, but no trip to plan! That's when I discovered this forum, while looking for recipes to re-create the "magic" :wizard: at home.

I've been a crafter since high school, but usually stuck with kits as I was the least artistic in my family. I learned to crochet from my grandmother, but never got the hang of knitting - too much work fixing mistakes. ;) I used to do counted cross stitch, but can't see anything that close anymore. LOL I was big into sewing (made my own winter coat one year) but I seem to cycle through a passion & then drop it completely. The only thing I've always done & still do is to make Christmas ornaments every year.

I was big into tole painting (also called one-stroke I think) - not the traditional art, but painting little wooden pieces that sit around the house...very "country" type thing. I haven't done much of that for the past couple years because my source of wooden pieces to paint was my Dad & he no longer has time to make them. (My mother's not well.)

I learned calligraphy in a class I took for my teacher certification years ago & last year I rolled that over into learning to do Fraktur - a traditional PA Dutch art.

It was only last year that I got into scrapping - or should I say shopping for scrapping stuff! :rotfl2: I was buying C'mas presents for DDIL who loves to scrap & by the end of January had ventured into the dark side of scrapping & breaking the bank! :rotfl2: In the beginning, I used to be disappointed when I'd come to this board & not see many recipes - mostly scrapping threads. LOL DH & our bank account were much happier in those days. ;) Now I check every day on my friends here and to see what's going on in the world of scrapping!

:wave2: :wave2: :wave2: and welcome to our little bit of the Dis

We have met at one of your pin events at WDW. But its been awhile.

How did I come to the DIS....I was surfing the web for Disney ideas to make my sons trip (first one without the big Sisters) a little different, and alot less expensive. Back then (6 years ago) I was mainly on the trip/resorts/budget and planning boards. Then the following year I was taking my sis and her kids for a first trip and in an attempt to make my son's trip as exciting as my neice and nephews first trip to the world was going to be I found the pin collectors and their hang out. Oh my was that a expensive find.....but loads of fun! I ended up with tons of pins to trade and the kids loved it. I have always found everything I need to know about the parks here and now spend most of my time (daily) here on the CCS board. I love these girls, and look forward to all our little threads about everything from scrapping to gifts for the family, to recipes for parties.

I am a Mom to three DD24, DD20 and DS11. LOVE LOVE LOVE scrapbooking, dabble in card making and venture off into other crafts now and again. I have also always been a crafter. I have done jewelry and sold it at shows, painted wooden bird houses, ceramics, sweatshirts....you name I have tried it once. It is in my blood. My absolute first love is photography and hope to take a class or two real soon.

Lauri, I hope you will enjoy your time here with us and maybe we can get you back to those photos and help you with some quick and simple ways to preserve Obi's and your vacation photos.

Beware :earseek: :earseek: we do enable each other to spend money quite a bit around here.

Hi Lauri, I started to lurk on the Dis around Jan. 2003 after I became a DVC owner and a mother on my son's basketball team (also a DVC memeber) told me about these boards. I would look at some of the planning boards once in a while. Then we were planning a trip to California which included Disneyland and I couldn't find a lot of info anywhere, I then noticed the Disneyland forum and joined the Dis to ask questions. I didn't know what to use as a sign in name so my twins helped me by combining twin and part of our last name, hence Twigs. I never dreamed I would post more than a few times and now wish I picked something different, but I guess it is who I am now. :teeth:

Around the same time I joined a friend got me into scrapping, and I noticed this forum and lurked here a while, I have always been a crafter, and I love trying out new recipes so I really liked it here. When I returned from that California trip and realized I wanted to scrap it, I came here a lot. And asked A LOT of questions. The help I got was amazing, and I learned sooo much here. That fall I joined the Holiday Recipe Exchange and discovered the Community Board because of the sent/received thread. I would mostly lurk there, but would post a little. I really liked your Useless Poll of the Day (and I miss them). Then one day I posted to a school related problem, I was actually agreeing with the OP, but said something like "just remember...." And I got the nastiest pm from some lady, that I sat at my computer and cried. She never even posted a reply on the thread, and anyone else that posted didn't respond to my post like that at all. Well that turned me away form the Community Board for a long time. I did go back, and have been posted there a little lately, but I don't touch anything that is the least controversial. I love this forum, everyone is so nice and we learn a lot from each other.

Glad to have you aboard. :wave2: Joyce

Hi Lauri!
Thanks for two great seasons of WPASADI. One where I was a player, another as a judge. Thanks for all the fun. I was wonder, will you keep that game going? :confused3
I've never really come over here before, but when I followed your link, it seems very interesting. I might have to come over here some more.

I think you already know alot about me, from the game, and from being on the cb with me. but here's some more

I'm 14, I joined dis on Jan 2, 2005. I would like to be a mod, but I don't think I got picked. Oh well. I don't scrap book RIGHT NOW, I'm thinking of starting one. I love to cook. I cook alot of chicken, and mostly "southern" food. ;) I'm crafty. I love making little craft things. I'm in an "art club" and we do alot of crafts. I also love to read, right now I am reading Numbering All The Bones. Its very good. I plan to read the new SOUE book after that. I just had a birthday on Oct 22.
Well thats pretty much all about me.

Welcome to your new home! I don't post here a lot but I'm a scrapper and getting more and more into beading so I'm sure I'll have questions for you.

< I'm -em aka Disneyland Emily

Ive been on dis since Oct 03 (I think...) I've been on Laughingplace.com since 00

I've been scrapping since I was about 4 (okay helped my family scrap) and doing my own pages since I was 11 and own books since I was 16- Ive now done over 30 books.
I only scrap 8.5 x 11 (Ive tried 12 x 12 for 3 books and hated it) Ive participated in the scrap swaps here since about March 03 and have just "retired" for right now due to a combo of factors-

I currently work 2 jobs I sell Toys at my local Walmart and work the front desk at the La Quinta Inn and Suites - so I have little time...

Welcome and have fun!

Hello and welcome! I joined the Dis not quite a year ago to get some info. for the Disney Cruise. I lurk on the park and cruise forums, but mostly post on this one. The people here are the best! I've been scrappin about 15 years and love to do books for my dd6 and ds9, and I love doing vacation scrapbooks. I'm also having fun making small scrapbooks for gifts. Again, welcome :flower:

Hi, I'm Sandy - RealMickeysGirl

I have been coming to the boards for a little while now. I mostly come to this one but sometimes venture over to the community board. My DH - RealMickey - mostly goes to the trip planning, vacation club and a couple of others but he rarely posts. I came up with my screen name because of his screen name. I tried to come up with something that would be funny but everytime I thought of something I figured it wouldn't be allowed "SleepsWithMickey", "InLoveWithMickey", You see where I was going with these - so I decided on RealMickeysGirl.

I have been scrapbooking for about 10 years - used to be a CMC long ago - before they had all the neat things that they have now. Gave that up when my fulltime job required overtime on short notice. It's hard to plan for a class when you aren't sure you are going to get off work in time to hold it. I would like to be a CMC again but not until I retire. Rarely cook and the only other craft I do is rubber stamping. Used to cross stitch but haven't done that in a while.

We have 2 cats - our Furry Purry Children - no human children.

Don't really know what else you want to know but unless it is tooo personal, just ask and I will answer.

Welcome!
Sandy

Welcome Lauri, Boy will you have an easy job here!!!! We are the calmest board on the DIS. Not really sure we need a Mod but we are happy to have you.

My name is Sue and I have been on the DIS since 1999. I used to post on the DVC board, but that is worse than the CB. I now stay were we all like each other. I am a scrapper and have been for about 9 years. Since you'll be the MOD here, I give you 3 months before you start scrapping again and joining the swaps.

ML! I'm glad to see you over here and I hope you're feeling well! Yes, it's much quieter on this board than on the CB, lol. Not much in the way of drama... except when a few certain people (and you know who you are!) post enabling threads telling of great deals and then we all go shopping, lol.

I joined here in 2001 while researching our Sept 2001 trip, but didn't make it to this board till this year when my friend pattyt "finally" got me to scrapbook! This is a great board and we've been getting tons of new people joining in. :cheer2:

Welcome ML!

Welcome, welcome, welcome. I am very familiar with your name and riddles (that is you, right??) over on the CB. We are happy to have you here on the CCSB. We are a friendly bunch, but we are waaaay too helpful with helping each other spend $$. Watch out for the "enabler" posts! .......................P

Welcome Lauri!
We're glad to have you here. You'll get a well deserved rest from drama and trolls over here.
Just a nice bunch of Dis'ers who'll help you become addicted to scrapbooking and spending your money on scrapping supplies! Beware of posts that start with the word "enabler". They are always expensive!
I came to the Dis about 2 years ago, I guess. I did hang around on the Community Board but that got way too stressful!
I love to scrapbook and stamp and quilt. Mostly, I love to shop for the supplies to do those crafts! :rotfl:
We do share some recipes here too. The crockpot thread was a great one as we come into the cold season again.
Anyways, welcome to our little corner of the Dis. I hope you'll like it as much as we do!
Lydia

Welcome over here Laureen and Kayla.
Laureen, does that mean that we will see some of your polls like we did on the CB?
Kayla, I'm sure you will like it here and maybe Jessica and Erica can stop by and see if there are projects and such that they could do also.

Lauri, welcome!! Hope all is well with you & that you are feeling better. Be careful here - Jeff has posted a few times here recently - you know what that will do to this board :)!! Maybe we can get Trina to post here instead!!

Hi, Mean Laureen! Welcome! Thanks for this thread, as I am really enjoying reading everyone's bio's...

Let's see, I joined the DIS when DH and I moved to a new town this past spring and I knew no one and spent all day scrapping and internet surfing. I was looking for a job, but since we found out I am pregnant and expecting in April 2006, we just decided for me to enjoy this time!

I've been scrapping for about three years now. I started my first book in October 2002 and it took me 18 months to finish it...but in the past 18 months I have completed 4 more books, and I'm very proud of it. My goal is to be completely caught up to the present by the time the baby decides to show up. Right now I am working on my August 2003 wedding.

Anyway, I mostly lurk, check this board every few hours to try to find out about sales (thanks, all you enablers!), techniques, new products, and ideas. You guys all rock!

Well hello again to all my old friends I'm finding again over here and to all my new friends. Sounds like I will have fun over here. After moderating the Collectors board during the height of pin trading and pin sharking and then a couple of years on the community board, I think I'm due some fun now, don't you?

If there is anything you guys can think of that you would like to see (reasonably ;) ) that I can try to get worked into the board, just let me know and I'll see what I can do. Can't make promises but I will try my hardest!

I want this board to be fun for everyone and a great little community. I've got lots of ideas (and those that are familiar with my brainchild "WPASADI" from the community board are probably scared now..lol) and would love input from you all. Once we get settled in with the "Moderator Shuffle" (mods are still being placed and added around the DIS right now) we can start talking about what else we can do to make this an even more fun place to hang out. In the meantime, get your thinking caps on about what you want to see!

Oh.. and keep the bios coming! I love to learn about you guys!

Oh, and Judith - don't worry. I've got a close eye on Jeff over there on the Photography board ;) Can't be letting him run loose without a leash ;)
Photography and Scrapbooking are pretty close subjects so even though we both left the Collectors board we are still pretty close in subject on the DIS.

Welcome!
I am a pretty newbie on the dis, but I am already obssessed. I found the dis when searching for more disney info for planning my upcoming trip. Although I am a scrapbook-aholic I didn't find the crafting board until a month or 2 after joining the dis, but I am so glad I did. I just love it over here, everyone is so nice and friendly.
