Our DD, who will turn 5 on our next trip during October is very petite in both height and weight. She has just hit the 38 inches mark, so she can now go on Kali River Rapids Yea! When an attraction lists the height requirement, does this include shoes? She wears croc type shoes and I wonder if she may get on some rides that she wouldn't truly be tall enough for (40 inches Dinosaur) or do they take shoes into consideration when estimating the height.

she earned her "frequent flyer" card on the barnstormer last year going on it three times in a row.. even the hubby had to get off after that. So while we want her to have fun, we want her to be safe

DS5 was on a major count down to 40 inches last summer. Just made it right before the trip. They really didn't take shoes into account(he wore sneakers all week), as best I could tell. But we did get stopped at the entrance to most rides "just to check". At the end of the trip we found a shirt in Star Tours that summed it all up. On the back is Yoda wearing a pair of Mickey Ears. On the front... Judge me by size, do you ?

Just in case you are curious, we used this book to discover what rides might be an issue. http://www.amazon.com/Fodors-Walt-D...bs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1201034735&sr=1-2

i always had the same problem! i was very petite as a child and still am, one trick if she is really close to the mark is to put some card board in her shoes and put her hair in a ponytail on the top of her head with a hat over it (i know it sounds lame but it usually works!) as far as being safe, the height limit is set to keep the safety bar safe. but if she is really close it should be fine. also she is old enough to have full muscle control of her body and she is old enough to tell you if somthing is wrong.
have fun!:goodvibes

Ugh, stupid laptop, I just typed this all out and it lost it!

Anyway when my DD was 6 last year they made her take off her hat and shoes and she was just a 1/2 inch shy and they turned her down. It pissed me off because we were only going on the slow one anyway (orange is it?) Still Disney can't count on us for not being stupid and trying to sneak her into the more intense one.

Still this year she will be tall enough, finally! Good thing because she will be 7 years old.

I am hoping my 3 year old will be tall enough to ride goofy this year. She should just make it, and she will be 4 in Aug so she is well past 3 1/2 mark. Who knows how old she is going to be before she can ride the 44 inch rides!

The CMS are way smarter than that - the hat will come off, and they will measure beside the ponytail. I've also seen them ask the child to step out of shoes.

The measuring stick used at Disney is in the shape of an upside down "L." The CM asks the child to stand under the "L" and if the CM can slide a card (think credit card) in between the 40" mark and the child's head then you will be turned away. My ds is 40" and we were turned away at some rides, but let onto others. It depends on the CM at the entrance. We did go buy him cowboy boots which had a small heel. This boosted him way above the 40" mark. One CM had us wait for a manager at BTMR due to his shoes, but they did end up letting him get on. We only used the shoes b/c it seemed the height stick actually was a bit higher than 40" (which we knew he was b/c he had just had his well baby dr visit). Good luck and I hope this helps you!

I really feel so bad for all the short kids :( not fair at all... My oldest has been riding all 40" rides since he was three weeks shy of 4 year old.... i think he was actully 42" at that time... now he's 49 1/2" tall so he's so looking forward to RNR.
Then dd now 5 has been tall enough since she was 3 years and 3 months old 40" rode TOT, BTMR, splash, Dinosour, ect ect. then we went last year we could get her on 1/2 that stuff when she was 4 LOL, this year she'll looking forward to everything again at 46" tall.
DD3 will be 4 in Aug. we just bough new shoes today (nike's nothing like setchers to make her taller or anything just plain old shoes) she's 41" tall, so we can actully go on so much as a family! :)
