When you walk up to the ride and they have height requirement sticks or things you walk under (not sure what they are called) are they right at 40" (if it is a 40 inch ride) or a little higher because kids have shoes on?
Thanks for your help!

I believe they are at 40 inches. If a child is wearing normal tennis shoes there won't be a problem but if the shoes have very padded bottoms, they may make the child take them off

What are padded buttoms?
I was just planning on Nikes or sandals- they are both over 40 inches with shoes on. (twins) Ones a little taller how do I tell the other he can't go on? But it should be fine- I hope!

The marks are 40' off of the ground. No allowance for shoes, but, many have noticed a difference in some of the sticks. In other words, your child might barely make it on Splash, but get turned away at Big Thunder even though both have the 40' requirement.

sometimes people put children who are a few inches shorter in very thick soul shoes (a few inches) to try to get them past the height requirements so some CM's will require them to take the shoes off if it looks obvious. Normal tennis shoes will be no problem.

They are usually measured 2 times, once at the beginning of the line and once right before they get on. Since you have twins and 1 is shorter, I would tell them way ahead of time that there may be some rides that you won't be able to go on because they may be too short. This way they know about this beforehand so it will be a plus when they do get on. If one is not allowed and the other is, my suggestion is that both do not ride (maybe the entire family does not ride).

If they are 40 inches, there will be no problem

There have been posts from people who shove napkins in their childs shoes to make them appear taller. There was one who even put ice-cream bars in their kids shoes.:sad2:

The thing is, your child just has to be tall enough in their normal shoes. If it looks to the CM like you are trying to add height, they will check a little more carefully. Your child could be short by just the thickeness of a credit card, and they may be told they can't ride. Best thing to do is to prepare your kids that they may not be tall enough to get on some rides. Try to make it so it is not a big deal, and hopefully that will help them to not be so upset.

I would make a decision ahead of time on what you will do if one twin is tall enough, but one is not. That is a tuffy. It doesn't seem fair to punish one child because the other is shorter, but maybe a rule if one is not tall enough nobody rides.

Hopefully they will both meaure over 40 inches, and you won't have a problem. Good luck!

I agree. That exact thing happened to my son last trip.

While I don't think a 1/4" too short will allow your child to fly out of a ride, the rules are there for a reason so we just baby swapped on the rides he was turned away at.

At least next trip it'll be a non-issue for us.

Please explain how ice cream bars would be of any help. :confused3

1) they'd squish flat
2) you'd wreck the shoes
3) Someone would want their kid miserable for the rest of the day in sticky wet leaky shoes?

I'm pretty sure there is no explaination

Exactly. Ew.

Thanks for your help! We will just wear our normal shoes, wasn't planning on any tricks- I figure it's Disney, they have rules for safety I would never argue with that!

The stupid parents will do anything to get their child on the ride, KNOWING they will not fit in the ride properly. "Hey hey, he'll be fine he's with me!" They get off the ride, and look behind them, and little Timmy is not in the seat! Hey, at least the kid had fun while plummeting to his death as he fell out of Space Mountain. :thumbsup2

If they are both over 40 in. with shoes on, you should be fine.

I don't know how old your twins are, but my twins are 4 (will be 5 when we go). Right now they are 38 in. One of my twins is also slightly taller. I would not let one ride if the other couldn't. Let the smaller one get measured first, but don't make a big deal of him/her getting measured first or they might feel bad if they are too short. I also will be measuring them before we go so I have an idea of what their height is.

I am hoping they grow 2 in. by the time we go in November. I know they can ride Kali River for the first time this year, and I have already told them about that and they are excited. They know that they might not be able to ride any of the other bigger rides. As for the those rides, if they can't ride then they have something to look forward to for our next trip.

I swear that Disney measures high. One year we measured our DS before we left and he was barely 40 inches. When we got to Disney, he wasn't even close. After we put some sandles (with some pretty big soles) on, he was fine except for Splash Mountain.

I read somewhere on the board that at the entrance to most of the parks there is a place where you can have your child measured and they will give your child a colored wrist band denoting what height requirements they meet. Not sure if this is true or not but if it is then you would know how to prep your kids for the rest of their day.

this worries me as well. my dd is just about 40", so she is fired up to ride some of the attractions she was too small for last year. however, since she is pretty close, i am wondering if she will be turned away at some. i want her to be able to ride safely, so if she is out, she is out. she might not like that news, though :rotfl:

They did away with that policy due to parents taking the wristbands off kids who WERE tall enough, and putting them on kids who were NOT tall enough, thereby claiming "they measured him up front and he made it!"
