Heelys as Race Sponsor

I'm just curious about other people's thoughts...

I noticed that Heelys is sponsoring marathon weekend's kids races as well as Minnie in May.

I know that some people have a huge problem with Heelys in the parks as well as out and about in everday life.

Am I giving DIsney too much credit by assuming this is thier way of maybe "educating" people about Heely safety? Or, is this purely a financial/ sponsorship decision?

Anyone?

I thought it was a little odd when I saw it, since I've read that Heelys are officially banned inside the park, even though Disney doesn't seem to enforce it. It appears to me to be a purely financial decision - if Disney truly didn't want them in the parks, why would they allow them as a sponsor?

well they allow strollers in the parks and not in the races. ;)

They also don't allow rollerblades in the parks but they (used to) have an in-line skate race.

They also don't allow anyone to swim in the lakes anymore and they still have the triathlon.

I do think it is a little bit of both--Disney really doesn't do anything that won't make them money..and I would say that Heely's are still under patent and they are the only ones who really make them (not sure if there is a generic term for it).

I LOL (really I did!) when I saw this and knowing that Disney does read the DISboards...I am absolutely certain they found a way to allow kids to heely there way on Disney property..just like they found ways for folks to run through the parks and swim in the lakes.

I don't fault Disney for having them sponsor an event and find that it is NO WAY encourages folks to use heely's in the parks. No more than the triathlon encourages folks to swim in the lakes and the marathon encourages folks to walk into MK and proceed to run laps around it.

(FWIW--I have no plans to introduce heely's into my household and really get annoyed when parents allow their kids to heely around the parks...especially in circles around me when I am obviously very pregnant as happened last January in front of the MK gates.)
