I have a question for those of you who wore heels for the ceremony and switched to flats after- how did you have your dressed altered? Was it dragging on the ground during the reception? I'm doing to opposite- I'm going barefoot for the ceremony and heels for MK photos, but I don't know how to have the dress altered. I don't want it dragging all over the ground before pictures. I was planning on going with some type of blue flat, but I can't seem to find any I really like. TIA! :goodvibes

It really depends on your style of dress and how high the heels.

If you're wearing a straight, slinky dress, then you're probably going to be tripping on it without shoes on if you have it altered to the heels. Ballgowns are a little more forgiving, as they have more room to spread out. Still, there is a chance you'll be tripping. And of course, the shorter the heel, the less of a problem it's going to be. A 6" heel is going to make a BIG difference - but a 2.5" heel not so much.

I suggest that you explain the situation to your tailor. He/she might have a solution. But it may come down to whether you'd prefer to be tripping during your ceremony or have your shoe showing in your pictures.

i didn't do anything to the length and had moderate heels for the ceremony reception. that was fine. the next morning, my feet were a little sore AND it was rainy/sprinkling for the MK shoot morning. our photographer assured me she won't put my feet in the pictures, so I grabbed some white flip flops. well, in retrospect, even though i loked at it a million times, i'm thinking my dress was a hair too short with the heels, and, although i was glad i wore the flip flops because we had to move around alot, i essentially carried my dress in my arms for the entire shoot and almost every picture has those annoying flip flops in them. i wish i had just found something flat as an option (alhtough of things i own, those flip flops were probably the nicest things to pick - not the brown reefs i've had for 5 years!!). also, a little change in heel height made more of a difference than i thought. is your ceremony on the beach or something? i'm wondering why barefoot? i would just aim for a similar heel height if it matters to you. good luck!

Thanks for the replies! I'm attempting a joint response, so here goes. Currently the wedding is on the beach of Castaway Cay, with reception in Outlook Lounge on the Dream. We take a mid-day break to play on Castaway Cay, then return to the ship for the evening show, dinner at Palo, and the Pirates in the Caribbean party.

So, I technically have 2 wedding dresses wedding. Originally, I purchased a chiffon sheath that was perfect for a barefoot on the beach ceremony, but when we added photo sessions at MK and AK, I decided I wanted something more bride-y, know what I mean? So, the original dress is now wedding dress #2- the dress I will wear to the show, dinner, and fireworks/pirate party.

The new dress, is so NOT beachy- it's a ball gown! I completely fell in love with it, crying and everything when I tried it on, so I bought it. It's completely inappropriate for the setting, but I just love it too much! I'm not a girlie-girl by any means, but I definitely got that 'princess' feeling. I had already ordered a custom pair of barefoot sandals with a blue mickey on each (my something blue), and since regular shoes are a no-go on the beach, I might as well wear 'em with the ball gown! So, now here I am- barefoot, on a beach, in a ball gown, with MK/AK photos 2 days later.

I can't be barefoot on the ship, so I need to wear shoes for the cake reception as well. We're open to moving the ceremony on-board the Dream (we'd also save $1000), but as of now the on-board location is Outlook Lounge, and I'm not going all the way to the Bahamas to get married indoors.

I just bought the coolest shoes- Cami by Pour La Victoire.

I searched high and low for flats or a low heel, but I just couldn't find anything I like. Plus, I fully intend to wear these with dress #2 and to a few special honeymoon dinners we booked in WDW.

I just don't know what to do about altering the new dress. I thought about adding a crinoline when barefoot and removing it for park pictures to get a little extra length, but I highly doubt that will be enough.

Thanks for the help!

I love love LOVE your shoes and new dress. I think you'd be best getting the dress fitted for the length of the shoes and having it a bit long when you wear it on the beach as I think that won't be as noticeable.

I know you already have the mickey sandals, but how about a platform wedge flip flop? This would give you the extra height and you could walk on the beach.

just a thought!
