I have a feeling I've got a heel spur on my left heel. I notice when I wake up and walk it gets painful. Same with when I get up from the couch or recliner. It really gets sore if I am standing still or waiting in line. If I am walking it doesn't seem to be as bad. What do they do about these? Are there shoes that are more comfortable for sufferers? TIA....

I actually had them on both heels about 4 months before my first WDW vacation. I went to my chiropractor and he gave me gel heel cups to wear in my shoes. He also did several ultrasound treatments to break up the spurs. Treatment was very successful and was able to walk normally again after about 2 months.

I have them on both heels to. Was sent to a foot doctor and got inserts made and they are much better.I loved walking in bare feet and she made me wear good running shoes in the house that helped alot. Since I have the inserts though I don't wear my shoes indoors as much.

In the morning stretch your foot foward so that the muscle in the calf part of your leg stretches. Doctor told me to use a towel and pull the foot foward while sitting up in bed( this is before you step out of bed). You would believe how that helps to. I felt like an old lady trying to get out in the morning and now am fine.Doctor said if this didn't work she too would do ultrasound treatment.

Another easy stretching exercise can be done before getting out of bed. (my podiatrist taught me this one)

Keep a can of Campbell's soup under you bed. Before you get out of bed, put the can under the arch of your foot and roll it back and forth about 10 times. It keeps you from getting that sharp pain in your heel when you first stand up.

I have a bone spur on one foot which aggravates my plantar facsiitis (or is it the other way around?) I use a night splint when it flares up and after a few weeks, it's much better.

Are you sure they are heel spurs and not plantar facsciitis? It sounds like the latter which I have too, ouch!

I have had a heel spur for a long time and its finally gotten tot he point they are goign to ultrasound it so it breaks up. But up until now orthodics have made a world of difference in how it felt. One year at Disney I remember it hurting so bad at the parks I wanted to cry.

I had a friend who had one and the Dr. recommended Birkenstocks. She got a pair and wore them . It is gone and she feels no pain.

i've had both heel spurs and plantar facitis, went to the podiatrist, first thing he said was get rid of my nikes and go to new balance, nothing below an 800 model. it's got to do with the bend of the sole, you don't want much bend in bottom of your shoe, i bought gel insoles from him, not molded to my foot, and they treated with cortisone, and then freeze spray and taped the bottoms of both feet, had to wear it for a week. all this has helped and i don't have many problems anymore. if i do i use a 20 oz. coke bottle filled with water and frozen to roll my feet on and this really helps, recommended by a sports trainer friend of mine, he also said that i could get rid of it by staying off my feet for 2 - 3 weeks, lol. everything i've heard says avoid surgery, you can do better without it, unless absolutely necessary, and then think long and hard about it.

Mine was very similiar pogopossum. I didn't have to have cortisone, thank goodness. The doc told me a lot of the same things that you did. New Balance only for running shoes, taped the bottom of my foot for a week, special orthotics, and for work I have a pair of DuraShocks that have individual cells in the insole. Since I am on concrete 8 hrs a day at work, these DuraShocks are worth their weight in gold.

Mine recommends Nikes, I had Easy Spirit and he said get rid of them and only wear Nikes and it does help. Also to buy new sneakers and work boots every few months, don't wear the same ones more than 6 months tops.
