we burn wood- as our primary source of heat in the winter, but we always get 1 tank of oil for the year- for nights when its too cold to go without but to warm for the wood..

My DMIL just got oil- $1.839 per gallon.....10 cents off if paid within 7 days- but thats still 173 a gallon. On her ticket- it lists the last 6 deliveries- and even LAST year, the most she paid was 1.54 a gallon...WHAT THE HECK its only October!

i know DH just paid 1.23 per gallon for diesel, and he just about fell over doing that...but fuel oil-

Man I feel sorry for those on limited incomes, that are now being forced to chose, oil for heat, or groceries...etc... We do have a fuel subsidy thing around here, but Im sure at these prices, it wont be long until that runs out.

What are you guys paying for heating oil?

My mom was lucky enough to do a prebuy- she bought 1500 gallons back in June for 1.29 a gallon..... that will get her thru the entire winter....but ate up her income tax return LOL

I bought 1000 gallons at 1.42. It won't be enough for the entire winter but we will keep the heat down.

I think that might be what a lot of people are doing Dawn!.. the 1500 my mom bought it'll be tight...and with my grandparents living there, she cant turn the heat down to 60 when she leaves for work etc.

I know at DH's store (he sells parts & accessories for manufactured houses) he has sold a lot more windows/doors and that type of stuff this year than he did last year. His furnance sales are also up. I guess people figure if they're going to pay more per gallon, they're going to try to be as energy efficent as they can. And we all know- the newer furnaces run "cheaper"...

I know that my current propane company is charging $1.88 a gallon now of propane , last year the highest we paid was $1.69 .
But I have another company who is trying to get some new customers in my comunity and they have guaranteed me $1.54 a gallon for the entire winter season, so when I am ready to get propane again ( which will be soon ) , I will try to negotiate with my current provider, if they can't match or beat the deal that the other company is giving me, I will switch to the other company.
BTW , gas in this area for regular right now is $2.01 a gallon, almost .40 more than last year at this time. :(

I have no clue what we are paying...I pay 128.00 a month 12 months a year (most of the time the last month is no charge since the budget usually ends up in my favor). I can't be bothered with getting big bills every few weeks in the winter and nothing in the summer...I prefer paying monthly, I do the same with gas and electric too. Electric is 150 a month and gas is 13 a month.

We just signed a contract and after using the 10 $10 coupons they gave us (we can use 2 per delivery), the final cost is $1.52/gal.

Ours will be 1.89 gallon. Our company really went up this year and they didn't do the buy it first option this year. We only use about 700 gallons/year as we keep the heat down and turn it down further when we go to bed at night. I guess I'll have to work some overtime this year!

We don't use heating oil but do use propane. We did an early buy to get it at $1.04 but its expected to go up around $1.75 during the winter (or so say two propane reps I've spoken with.) Thank goodness we have a 1000 gallon tank. It really squeezed my budget but I filled it as full as its safe to fill. It should last us well into spring. We keep the house much warmer in the winter now that we have skinny little Isabella but hopefully we'll still be fine.

Those of you heating with oil have my sympathy. If the Old Farmer's Almanac is right and its a long hard winter in much of the country it's gonna get expensive!

Ugh-this topic depresses me :(

We usually buy our oil in August, enough to get through the winter. This summer, the prepay price was $1.60 and we decided to pay as we go. I am really wondering if we made a mistake. We haven't had our tank filled up since May. This first fill up will be shocking I'm sure!!! We haven't turned the heat on yet and I will stick it out as long as I can!

It was $1.89. We have a small tank, so we will go through that, I'm sure.

We usually buy in July or August, and I had a quote of $1.75 then. My DH wanted to wait and of course it got higher.

We aren't home much, and we keep it fairly low, so this should last us until March.

Is that the stuff me and the wife use when the kids are spending the night with the grandparents?;)

 :teeth:  :faint: ::yes:: But that stuff's definitely worth the price!:teeth:

We just payed $1.39 for the 2 houses we rent out, dh cousin gets a good deal because he does all 4 houses at once, he owns 2 too. Now our one tenant is moving out and wants us to pay for the oil still in the tank. We will say no. She is psycho. She said she is measuring it and sending us a bill. She put it in. My dh said you can go pump it out and sell it back to the oil co. if you want etc. He told her, if you knew you were moving, why did you fill up the whole tank etc. The new tenant doesnt want to pay for it either and said he can get his own better deal, huh, what. Gee. I am glad we have gas and dont have to worry about this etc.

No oil here, but natural gas. I just renewed our annual fixed rate (last year was first time available). Not a budget plan, but rather a fixed price for 12 months, either I will come out ahead or the gas company will, no adjustments. Last year I was at $98 a month, 12 months, this year is $110. I thought a 10% bump, in light of what I have been reading on fuel prices, was a good bet in our favor. We'll see. In any case, I know my gas will cost me exactly $1,320 for the next 12 months, no more, no less.

Geez Dan I've never heard of that! Here, you do a budget plan, and at the 11th month- if you havent gone through it- you're credited, and if you've gone over, given what you used the previous year as a guide- they adjust your budget accordingly at about 9-10 months.

We do pre-pay for the season. We prepaid oil at $1.39/gallon. And, while this is much higher than previous years, sounds cheap compared to others.......have a warm winter everyone.....:teeth:

We have had available for years, though I have never used, the budget plan, and it is still available. This was new last year, Brandy, basically like buying a futures contract. Based on past several years of gas use patterns of a household, the anticipated gas cost and antipated weather, they quote you a rate. Locke in for the year, no ups, downs, credits, charges or changes. I like it.

We signed a contract with a cap at $1.59/gallon (if it goes down, which is about as likely as having a 90 degree day in february, we will get the lower price). By the time we got the contract in the mail and sent it back the price they were offering was $1.79/gallon.

our oil company does that. one price is fixed, you pay that price whether price goes up or down. another plan is guaranteed, you pay no higher than that rate, but if price drops, you're guaranteed the cheaper price. and the budget plan....monthly installments year round...but, the highest of all 3 plan prices.....
