Talk about a budget killer. :headache: Heat pump went out and it will be over $3600 to replace it. :scared1: The company said they could replace the compressor but that would be $1700 and no guarantee it would last and this is on a house we were trying to sell.

Actually $3,600 is a very inexpensive replacement.

Our neighbors replaced both of their for almost $20K. They called the company that is advertised on the TV (ie: the one that costs the most) and were taken IMHO.

We replaced both of ours, Trane, one 1.5 ton and the other 2 ton, and paid about $11K for both. We had about 5 estimates done.

ok, why was my heat pump (and "free" backup furnace) $7K to replace? hmmmm

Sorry about the budget buster...I know we pay less in utilities w/ the heat pump - maybe that's the silver lining and good selling point?

Is there a warranty on the compressor if replaced? Could just do that and pass along the warranty to new owner?

good luck w/ it!

I just replaced my whole system in March for 7 grand. Heat pump/back up furnace/air handler. 3 ton unit/15 seer

My advice...find a good deal....but a good deal does NOT mean the cheapest. Find someone who will do it right!! Paying an extra 50 bucks or so for someone else to come look at your unit may be worth it!

Is there a home warranty on the home while you are trying to sell it? When we sold property, our realtors provided home warranties on the appliances, heating and cooling system, etc. If you have one of these, check the terms of the policy. Some or most costs may be covered.
