I have what I can only hope is very severe heartburn. Before I go on, it is much better now that it was, but nevertheless, it is still there a little.

I have never had this before. It started on Sunday. While I was at work, I noticed I was having some chest pains. I thought nothing of it. Then, early Monday morning, I was awakened by them! Very painful right in the middle of my chest, and to top it off, liquidy stuff was coming into my mouth! Tried some Pepto, but had to get up and walk around for it to get to a tolerable level.

Dealt with varying symptoms all day Monday, usually only when I would try to eat. Food hurt going down. Still does a little.

Had the same early morning fun this morning (Tuesday.) Went out and got some Pepcid AC, as the Pepto just wasn't quite cutting it.

So, if you deal with this too, tell me: how long does this last? Can I expect to be better tomorrow, hopefully? What kind of things do you do to deal with it? What medicine works best for you?

I don't think it's anything other than heartburn, as I am only 26, and I've been able to function otherwise. So I think (and hope) it is only heartburn.

Thanks in advance!

To be on the safe side please make a dr. appointment.
My Dh's got so bad he vomited up blood and it also came out the other end as blood. (Sorry to be so graphic.) Later found out his stomach lining was aggravated by heart meds, etc. He is doing much better now with a prescription drug, Prilosec.

I had it really bad when I was pregnant. I never had it before hand though and I still get it every now and then even after I had the baby. It would get so bad sometimes that I could feel the stomach acids coming up my esophgus (sp?) By the end up my pregnancy I had 24/7 heartburn. Tums doesn't help, Rolaids doesn't help, Pepto doesn't help and even the Pepsid didn't help. If you can't find anything to help it, you may have to look at your diet. Did you eat anything new that might have caused it??? If it's something that continues, you may need to change some things in your diet. I hope it gets better for you :)

I take Nexium in the morning and Pepcid in the evening. It's worked wonders for me. I was on the Nexium alone for a year, and the heartburn didn't get much better, even though the reflux (the barfy stuff coming back up into your throat) did. So, I tried using Pepcid along with it, and the combo works great. Try Gaviscon or Tums if you want to try over-the-counter stuff. I don't think Pepto is for heartburn; it's more for stomach-upset, isn't it?

Wow! I've never had it that badly...but with these Panic/Anxiety attacks I would have long been to the DR. if I had ANY kind of chest pain.

Hope you feel better soon, I would definatly think about seeing your Dr. to make sure its heartburn...could also be reflux and you could need some RX drugs instead of just over the counter stuff.

Hope you feel better soon!

Pepcid complete helped mine a bit. I had it so bad with both of my pregnancies, I had to sleep sitting up the last month.

Thanks for the scare! :sunny:

Actually, I was just checking in to say it has gotten a lot better today. It still hurts a little once in awhile, but it is far better. I took a Pepcid Complete at night, and again this morning. It has helped alot.

Thank you for all your replies! I will probably go see the dr next week, too.

I suffer from that, and when I have one of my attacks, they come suddenly , within 1/2 hour the pain is bad. The first time I thought I was having a heartattack. Now I always have Zantac in my medecine cabinet and with me at all times, along with Gaviscon. I don't get the attacks very often , but when I do , they come full force for me.

I have GERD- gastrointestinal esophegeal reflux disease= constant heartburn with (ick) regurgetation. Almost no problem now since I lost weight. Sounds like maybe the acid coming up may have burned you.
Gotta check with a doc, tho. The acid can do permanent damage if it continues.
I was on Prilosec for a few years, worked great, and it's available OTC now.
Tums and Rolaids are a good quick fix, but don't tend to last long.
Good Luck.:D
