Nice collection of selective details on the train stuff- I enjoyed the whole gallery. Looks like a really interesting place.
Some very nice candid portraits of your daughter also. Any of those taken with the 18-135? or were they all with the 70-300vr? I am still up in the air on if I should get the 18-135 for Ms.G's D40 or something else.
Jeff,
First off, thanks for the kind words. Next time you're up this way, it'll be my turn to host the "DIS field trip"!
I started out with the 18-130 on one body, then switched to the 10-20 and used the 70-300VR on the other body, so the high numbered frames are were shot with the 18-135 or the 10-20; the low numbered frames were all shot with the 70-300VR. So, the "portrait" shots in the Photobucket gallery are as follows:
18-135: 4841, 4844, 4845, 4863, 4873, 4875
70-300VR: 986, 990, 1021, 1106, 1129, 1134
Honestly, for portraits, I find that I like both lenses about equally and the 18-135 certainly has a versatile range. The 70-300VR, of course, is stabilized. Both have nice bokeh, I think, although the longer lens is capable of a narrower focus area. If lens changing is not a biggie, maybe a two lens solution might be an option. D40 + 18-55 + 55-200VR. About sixty bucks more than the D40 + 18-135 option.
Good luck with your shopping!
