ANybody else have a child that doen ot like the volume of some of the attractions?
My DD is 8 and she still does not like the really load attractions. This time we are bringing ear plugs for her I bought at my local woodworking shop.

Anybody else do this?

Yes. At age 13, my DS still doesn't like the loud parts of the attracions. Squishy earplugs are a good way to avoid the noise.

when my older DD was 5 she brought earmuffs on some of the rides and wore them while watching the parade! I' don't think the ear plugs would have fit in her small ears.

Yes!! My DD5 has hated loud noises since the day she was born. We are planning to take ear plugs for her next month. Somewhere else on here, someone recommended ear protectors like you wear at a shooting range (about $10?) so I was even thinking of those. When DD was 2 y/o we were at another amusement park for a simulator ride that got LOUD, so Nana sat with her in the non-moving seats and they had those big ear protectors for all the little kids in that section. I thought that was great! :thumbsup2

Yes -- got the shooting range type for DGS when he was 6. I love fireworks, but he didn't like the noise, so he was happy to wear the ear "muffs." I think he may be getting to the point of being able to handle the loud noise, but keeping out damaging loud noise to prevent hearing loss is always good. I don't think he wore them on any attractions, but he wore them for the Sinbad show at IOA, and at LMA.

I've started taking ear plugs to movies for me, since they sound is way too loud to be pleasant.

I don't use them personally but I know families that do. If you want a really good pair go to any music store and ask for drummer earplugs. I used a pair during indoor practices when I was in competition marching band.

We used the squishy earplugs for several trips with my dd. She HATED the loud noises!!!!!!! We used them for all the shows and the fireworks. She finally stopped wearing them for Illuminations (her loudest show) last year when she was 9. Now she doesn't even wear them at a concert when I want them LOL.

.

My kids don't really need this now but when they were younger they were really worth the money spent and the space taken up in the backpack. They really take the edge off. They were also useful at US where I think sounds are kicked up a notch. Used them for Twister, Jaws and Terminator.

We went to the local sporting goods store and looked at the different varieties offered for hunting.

The one that seemed to work the best were red with blue plastic tips. My son could fit them around his neck from the front and use them when needed. The plastic hung around his neck without hurting him and provided just the protection we needed. When he got tired of them, I'd wear them around my neck. The plastic gave enough that it hung on my neck as well. We didn't have to look for them in a purse or bag when he wanted them: they were around someone's neck already.

They looked like this:
