Good Evening all~

Hope all are safe - we are in the throws of some NASTY weather here in NH - Thunder boomers and lightning and hale! oh my!

I have a question about Interpreters - my sister and BIL are legally deaf and will have an interpreter and room set up for the cruise in December 2006 - My sister questioned if the interpreter will go to meals with them to sign the meal selections. Does anyone know ? I called DCL and they stated that they would have to look into this and call me back.

We've done a couple of cruises where the interpreters were there. They are truly wonderful!

Sorry, I don't know whether they will go to dinner with your group. However, the dinner selections are all listed in the menu. The servers do make recommendations, but the dishes are listed, along with the chef's recommendations.

The interpreters were on our cruise also. Although I can't answer any of your questions, I can tell you that watching them during the shows was one of the most Magical parts of our cruise. I'm not deaf but the way they demonstrated the emotions and sense of the dialog as they signed was truly MAGICAL to me.

I don't know that they would need to interpret for the meal selections since except for Palo brunch where the server gives you a "guided tour" of the selections everything is printed on the menus. We often pointed to our selections since I couldn't pronounce some of the things!

I'm sure they will have a fantastic time.

I have used interpreters on the cruise and just request with them to sit with your group for dinner. I didn't request interpreters for lunch because i went to the buffet.

The interpreters are great too!

We booked 3 days disney cruise wonder, will it have an interpreter for us as 3 of us are deaf. Will it BSL or american sign laugauge?? We are going on 6th April 2006. We are looking forward to and hope interpreter will be there?? :confused3

Anybody know about it, please let me know.

I do not have specific answers - when I do have questions (for my sister and Brother in Law) I contact DCL directly and ask - sister has done calls through relay to ask ?'s as well....

sorry I couldn't help you though! :)

you have to request interpreter for the cruise. Most likely interpreter will be using American Sign Language.

Does DCL cover cost of the interpreter? I noticed one poster asks if they can request an interpreter, and another poster implies they are bringing the interpreter.

DCL provides the interpreters. There will be at least 2. You will need to request them. They are great.

We were on a four day cruise in May '05 and the interpreters at the show were AMAZING!!! Neither my DW nor I are deaf, but DW used to be an interpreter and she could not believe what a wonderful job the interpreters did. In true Disney fashion, the interpreters actually acted out much of the performance while signing, and I would venture to say that they were working a lot harder than the performers on the stage! We went up after the show to tell them what a great job they did, and they were really appreciative -- so be sure to thank them for all of their hard work!!!

To answer one of the questions, they used ASL on our cruise.

DCL will provide the interpreters. My DW is deaf and asked for an interpreter and DCL provided it.

They used an interpreter agency based in Kissimmee (1-888-Sign-ASL, aslservices.com). One of the interpreter's name is Angela, who happens to be the owner of the company DCL in contract with.

They are good.

They are not allowed to go on shore excursions though.
