Hearing Aids- wear in parks or not

One thing that I was thinking about as I read the posts is that your trip is in eight months. By then you might have a better idea as to how your dd responds to her hearing aids in both loud and quiet environments. Then, maybe it'll be easier to tell what is going to work best for her in the parks.

Have a great trip! :goodvibes

Nikki's came with a small carrying case you can put into your pocket if I need to take them out away from home. I assume if they're self adjusting then they would 'adjust' any noise level. It's just hard since Nikki doesn't always tell us how she feels about things. I pretty much have to watch her face for hints sometimes. She has an appointment next week with her audiologist. I'll ask her what she thinks about the noise level too and the self adjusting part. Who do you insure hearing aids with? To tell you the truth, I'm not sure if these are insured or not. They're financed. Medicaid wouldn't pay anything on them so they're out of pocket for us too. Thanks!

Yes, so you can either put that case in a larger ziploc to prevent water and "smashing", or you can just put the aids themselves in a ziploc to prevent water from getting in on water rides.

I also agree with Keara's mom that you still have some time before the trip to better see how the aids are working for Nikki. BTW, how old is she?

Usually the hearing aids are covered for damage or replacement from the hearing aid company for a year or two (provided they are new).....at least they were for us. After that, you can add coverage from the hearing aid company or add a rider on your homeowners policy.

Just to add another suggestion. Because the HA are self-adjusting you might want her to wear them, as they will adjust if the sound gets too loud and then it won't startle her as much as if she did not have them in. Of course you can test it all out before you go by taking her out to the mall, etc. to get an idea.
