The background - DD shares a confirmation teaching responsibility with a HS junior for a small group of confirmation students.
About every 4 weeks, all of the small group guides meet with the Director of Family Ministries, to go over things, class content, and anything else that comes up. One question that came up at the last meeting was related to the small groups - and at what point do the groups "gel".
My DD answered this question, in part from her own experience from when she was in the confirmation classes. She said it took their small group a whole year to "really gel" and once that bond was formed, it was rock solid, and she went on to say a number of other things related to her own faith, the faith of the group etc. DD's small group was also very supportive to one group member whose older brother died in a tragic and senseless car accident.
Another parent we know who is also a small group guide shared with me how mature and sincere she sounded sharing her experience with the other small group guides.
So - I had a "proud mom" moment today. I really appreciated hearing the comments (every parent loves to hear this type of stuff about their kids) I think sometimes we get so wrapped up in the - is your homework done, is your room clean, can you help out with the household chores etc, that it was so nice to hear something great!
