Healthy portable snacks

I actually just looked it up. The cereals are actually safe. I'll have to add that to my shopping list for next week. Unfortunately, their kashi snack bars are not. I understand that peanuts and nuts are a great source of protein, I just wish all of these companies would figure out a way to make the non-nut flavors safe for people like me.

I mean...I can quaker chewy bars from Canada that are safe, but I can't get them here. it's frustrating!

I didn't even think of freezing stuff and just letting it defrost throughout the day. This is why I asked here....I was having a serious mental block with snacks

Special K makes some peanut safe cereal bars and there is one other granola bar out there that is peanut safe. I will have to ask DD, her best friend has a peanut allergy she is more "up" on that stuff than I am.

I like to make a big thing of tabouli. I use the Near East one and add chopped cucumbers, carrots and black olives to it. Very yummy and healthy and can even go unrefrigerated for a few hours.

Where do you find this in the store? I fell in love with tabouli last fall on a trip to Abu Dhabi. I'd love to find some in a store!

I totally get what you mean about wanting portable snacks that will keep. I'm always trying to find small things I can stuff in my bag that will hold for the day that won't need much refrigeration.

- Fruits and veggies
- Pretzels, Wheat Thins, Triscuits, etc. They're really good with this cheese (http://www.thelaughingcow.com/products/the-laughing-cow-wedges/) because it comes in such small container that makes it really portable. :goodvibes
- Whole grain pita bread and hummus
- Sweet potato chips
- Chex Mix

Have you checked out Vermont nut Free http://www.vermontnutfree.com/
? They have granola bars and energy bars listed on their web site. I haven't tried them for my son, so I don't know how they taste. I have a hard time with snacks for him, too.

Yeah i've tried those before. IMO, they are not great. I would probably be okay with eating them occassionally if they were sold in the store but they are not worth the high price to order them for me.

I know my cousins husband is going back to England next week for a few days so he is going to see what he can find over there. He already keeps me stocked in chocolate that way! He keeps me in Kit Kat bar heaven when he goes there.

Are these sticky sweet tasting? They had that drinkable yogurt that seemed similar to these and I could only drink about 1/2 of one because they were so sweet. These would be good to freeze and throw in golf bags if they are more tart

I was thinking the same think. I can't stand those drinkable yogurts. I love fruit but a lot of these things end up being too sweet.

You mentioned that you were driving a long distance. Why don't you keep a small cooler in your car with a real lunch? When I was in school, I drove 1 hour, went two days a week all day. I would leave all my books and supplies for my afternoon classes in my car and would switch them out at lunch. You could then grab your lunch and eat in a courtyard or anywhere else that is convenient.

One of my favorite easy meals is to spread tortillas with hummus, layer on deli meats and cheese. roll up tightly. Chill in the fridge over night. Cut into small pinwheels. You then have bit size sandwiches.
