Okay my family and I just got back from a week at the GF. We had a wonderful time but we were really disappointed in the food choices at Disney. I found most of the food there to be very unhealthy and full of hydrogenated soy bean oils, and high fructose corn syrup (the kid’s sandwiches on the concierge’s level were completely artificial – nothing natural). We picked up some sushi from Gasparilla’s thinking that would be some what natural and that even had high fructose corn syrup! We did try all the restraints at the GF expect for V&A Steak House. Citricos was actually not that bad but we had a hard time getting any nutritional info from the chef. My husband nicely asked him about eating healthily around the parks – he told us he would not eat any park food (the concierge also told us that) and he told us that WDW has banned almost all Trans fats. When we asked him for the nutritional info from our meal he was not able to give us that info? I am doing Weight Watchers and wanted to know what I was eating. Anyway we love WDW and want to go back; we just don’t want to feel so unhealthy when we get back.

Does anyone know of places that will deliver healthily meals? I don’t mind having a few treats and letting my kids have some nuggets and hotdogs but 5 days in a row is too much. I also don’t want to pay a fortune for GF Concierge level and hand my kids a uncrustable sandwich!

I have heard of the grocery store that delivers. We really like the GF and as you know there are no kitchens there. We would just like to find out where to eat that is healthy. Or figure out how to have a few healthy meals delivered to the room.

Any tips or advice?

TIA

Not to be rude, but are we talking healthy or some special diet? What do you people eat at home? I just looked at the Grand Floridian cafe, for breakfast you can get, yogurt, oatmeal, cheerios with skim milk, egg white omelette, egg white fritatta or fresh fruit for breakfast.
For lunch a salad, tuna, or fruit plate.
For dinner there was fish, baked chicken, salmon, any of those with a salad or veggie are fine.

Keep in mind that a place like Disney caters to the masses, but gets high marks for handling special needs/requirements. If you want to eat a particular diet/lifestyle my suggestion is to know what you want in advance and do some planning or pre ordering. We are vegetarians and made our ADRs to suit us. I also knew what CS places in each park where we'd have some choices as well. As for park CS I tried to have 2-3 choices in case we weren't near one, it was closed, etc.

Selecting the vegetarian option at some TS meals can be a healthier alternative. There is plenty of fresh fruit available in the Disney grab and go section and at our resort (CBR) there was a fruit and cheese pack that I could have gotten with beverage and dessert (could be more fruit) as a CS meal. I also got a really fresh side salad that I ate w/o dressing. There are also boiled eggs, dry cereals, oatmeal, grits, milk. We got both frozen fruit bars and ice cream treats as desserts. One complaint I have is the yougurt. I would much rather the Danon with fruit at the bottom Yoplait seems like eating plastic to me.

In the parks Columbia Harbor House has both a vegetarian chili and a veggie hummus sandwich. You can order a veggie burger at Cosmic Ray's or Peco Bill's. Boma would be a great place and you'd probably appreciate Jiko as well. I'd take a good look at the Epcot menus as I have always found that other cultures often offer healthier eating choices than our American diet.

Regardless of what you eat at Disney there is one thing that will make it all a bit better, drink lots of water! I think that really helped me enjoy my meals and since I didn't drink so much sugar it made those Mickey bars less damaging!
