Healthy choices at WDW Tips & Ideas thread

We did a lot of sharing. My DD16 eats little meals and shared a lot with DD7. I shared a lot with DD10. DH did not share but he is a protien and veggie guy. It makes the Adult price a little easier to swallow. We did not even bother with kids meals in most places.

Tokyo Dining - split Grilled Breast of Chicken and split Grilled NY Strip Steak
Yak & Yeti, Brown Derby - Seared Ahi Tuna (any where we could find it)
Kona Island Sushi Bar - ate there three nights. (alright a couple glasses of wine to go with):cool1:

May sound weird but we also brought a 24 count bag of chesse sticks (low fat mozzarella)accross the U.S. with us. Made for quick mornings and afternoon snacks. We have to keep sugar low in our diets for different reasons and kept it for the occasionaly ice cream splurges.

Love this thread and will try Tangierine Cafe great items.

For those of us on the Dining plan who can't share meals...what kind of things would you experienced diners recommend? :worship:

I just wanted to say I love this thread! :yay:

I lost 90 lbs between 2007 and early 2008 motivated after coming back from a trip to WDW and not having enough energy to keep up with my son. I've been back twice since losing the weight and the energy I have now is amazing.

In addition to the great tips that I just got from reading this thread I also got a huge amount of motivation to pay a bit more attention on my next trip in October. I am going with a friend for F&W festival so I know there will be some indulging. We are also doing some signature places like California Grill but after looking at the menu I realize the appetizers appeal to me a lot more than the entrees so I plan on ordering a salad and then an app for when she has an entree. My plan is to also get in a lot of extra exercise while she is at her conference each morning. Two mornings I'm heading to HS for opening and then I plan to walk to Epcot and through the park to the monorail to get back to the Contemporary instead of hopping on the bus at HS.

Thank you to the person who listed all the fresh fruit places. I knew where they all were except Epcot. I totally forgot about the Sunshine Food Court duh.

I'm glad to see this thread! I was thinking of starting a new one for people on Weight Watchers doing Disney, but did a search first so I wouldn't be duplicating something already out there.

I started Weight Watchers a little over a month ago. I've lost 8 pounds and have 8-10 pounds more to go to reach my goal weight, which I hope to do before our January 2010 Disney trip.

I don't expect to lose weight at WDW, but I really don't want to gain. What works for me at home is eating a slightly larger meal in the middle of the day and a very light dinner. My husband is not a big-meal-in-the-middle-of-the-day person at all and likes a nice dinner in the evenings, so we've made ADR's for every evening. I need to find a way to get through the day without getting "the shakes" from hunger but not eating so much that I can't relax and enjoy a good dinner and a glass of wine.

I will keep an eye out for the carts selling fruit. I do recall Sunshine Seasons from last time having some healthy choices, and the menu at The Wave, where we have one of our ADR's, looks good.

It's good to know that splitting entrees is ok. I also had thought of having an appetizer as my entree and ordering a side of vegetables or a salad. I love dessert and don't want to deny myself that pleasure while at WDW, but I'll definately be splitting them with my husband. On a night I really want dessert, I'll probably order an appetizer as an entree and be sure I don't eat any bread.

Oatmeal for breakfast is a good tip. Usually I have a Luna bar or Kashi roll for breakfast, for 3 Weight Watchers points. This can get me up until lunchtime most days. I find I'm not hungry when I first wake up, and it helps if I can delay breakfast a bit. On days when we hit the parks early, I may just have water in the morning and bring my breakfast.

I'm interested to hear what other suggestions people may have or what menu choices worked for you!

QS Sushi at Captain Cooke's at the poly
Tuna Sandwich/ Salad at Columbia Harbour House MK
Sushi/Grilled Salmon at Sunshine Seasons EPCOT
Ribs Flame Tree BBQ AK
The food at DHS is so deplorable...avoidance makes it healthy...fruit carts, side salads, smoothies

I'm really glad I stumbled upon this thread. I've lost 40 pounds with Weight Watchers (and still losing), and I was wondering if there would be any healthy food options to choose from. I've made a list of the tips here to help keep me on track. Thank you! :)

I just wanted to report back about the Chicken Wrap at the Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe. The chicken is grilled, not fried, and the wrap is stuffed with lettuce and tomatoes. You can add more veggies at the fixings bar. There is a good bit of cheese but you can ask them to go light. A single wrap (about 12 inches long) is easily a meal for two adults. I was really impressed with the crispness of lettuce and freshness of the veggies at a 'fast food' place.

Remember to swap the fries for apple slices. :)

I also ended up eating a lot of kid's meals at the hotel: the PB&J sandwich (actually a smucker's uncrustable) with carrots and apple slices comes it at under 500 calories. There's a few more empty carbs than I'd like but it was a quick and easy way to get a fruit and a veggie in a low cal meal.

Must post here, because it's important to keep going, I think!

Does anyone here know where I can get the best kids meals that are "Real" food for my little one? I mean a menu that's not just nuggets, burger or hot dog? I should preface by saying that the meals he's looking most forward to are the sushi at Teppan Edo and escarot at Chefs...:confused3
We usually do fine at TS restaurants, but as we'll likely only do 1 of these per day, I would like to find some CS options he'll like. Is there anywhere with grilled chicken/veggies or pasta on their kids'?

As far as our eating plan goes while in the World:
In the past, we usually have a light breakfast in the room (whole-grain toast and jam or oatmeal brought from home or grocery stop) a late morning heavier snack (maybe a turkey leg, or sandwich, split 3 ways...with lots left over to mix into a CS pasta later) a late lunch at a TS again, split (the lunch menus are way cheaper and plenty of food to hold til late) then heavy snacks for fireworks (our fave is the Boulangerie Patisserrie in Epcot, with all sorts of yummy splurges. We usually get a couple extra treats boxed and have them for our breakfast the next day)

This has both saved us in $$ and calories! But it really does take some work to find the best options, so this thread is a great help!

we actually bought the tiw card for march instead of ddp for that reason.

my kids don't eat nuggest, dogs and burgers that much. Maybey burgers twice the entire time.

we bought tiw so they could share an adult meal and have a healthier better option.

TIW? Sorry...what's this again?

I try to always order salads and when I can I get the dressing on the side. I also drink a lot of water. Finally, I avoid fried food and most carbs. These things seem to help more than anything else. For me it's not just the problem of gaining weight but the bloated feeling I get when I eat unhealthy food for a week.

I refuse to restrict myself when I eat somewhere special though. Plus I will have my one Mickey Bar!
