I need some ideas for healthy and fun after school snacks for my kids. Anyone got any good ideas?

Here are some things my mom used to do:
When we were home alone she would prepare this in the am for us in the afternoon-
Ham and cheese/turkey and cheese roll ups with a little container of honey mustard to dip with assorted raw veggies and a little kid sized container of low fat ranch dip (each in individual servings for my brother and I)

She would also wrap a hotdog in a tortilla with a slice of cheese and wrap it in saran wrap for us to pop in the microwave to dip in ketchup

Also, she would ALWAYS have grapes, cheese, crackers, and pickles for us to snack on.

Mom was a little OCD so everything would be in individual portions in baggies or something to make sure we didn't overeat.

When she was home in the afternoon, we had LOTS of afternoon fun. She would let us take 1 english muffin each and split it and put a little pizza (or spagetti) sauce in the center and spread it around and add a little cheese and she would pop it in the toaster oven. YUM and pretty healthy snack as english muffins are low fat. Chips, cookies, and such were a big no no in our house.
Also she kept fat free chocolate fudge pops in the freezer and sugar free popsicles and fat free sherbert in the freezer if we wanted a sweet snack.
Sorry I'm going on and on, but she also bought pecans in the shell (you could do any nut really) and let us crack and eat them while we told her about our day. Also we had a air popcorn popper she would make us popcorn with molly mcbutter sprinkled on it.
Hope this helps!

Oh, hunny-I could go on and on

Another thing to put on the air popped corn is cinnamon/sugar sprinkle when it's still hot out of the popper

My mom also kept ice trays with ice in them made with fruit (berries, bananas-you name it) and fruit juice (apple mostly, but grape also) frozen to put in our afternoon drink which was usually sprite. Tasted yummy!

We also had frozen grapes dipped in this dip she would make, I'm not sure the recipe but it was a cream cheese dip that was sweet.

OOh, also she would get shish-kabob skewers and put strawberries and melon on them and let us roll them in powdered sugar and eat.

Then there were the pb&j and banana sandwiches toasted in a frying pan with a little butter. pretty darn good

She also made simple cheese toast. Bread with a little butter on one side, place a kraft single over the top of the butter and put in the oven on broil until cheese was melted

Also she melted (kindof) peanut butter in the microwave and mixed in our fav cereal (cheerios, fruitloops, applejacks) then spread that on a tortilla and rolled it up for a crunchy sweet wrap

She also made us home made ice cream sandwiches with those hard oatmeal cookies and spread vanilla fro yogurt in them and froze wrapped in wax or parchment paper

We also had ritz crackers with this dip she made that was just lowfat sourcream mixed with taco seasoning mix (she would mix this right into the sour cream tub)

I'll try to think of some more for you, I'll call my mom and see what else she remembers. I find myself making all of these things now for my nephew. One of the 1st phrases he said clearly was "cheese toast" :lmao:

This all sounds so good! I'm making a file so I can alternate snacks into a non-boring routine! I really appreciate this!

Awesome ideas! I'm so hungry, those sound great!
Thanks! My mom was/is super creative. She always wanted us to be involved in everything so we could learn to do things for ourselves. They make me hungry just thinking about it too! popcorn::
