For someone who's trying to eat a little bit healthier on their Disneyland vacation what different places or different snacks do you recomend? maybe some different healthier snacks around the parks?? Thanks!

Bengal BBQ chicken and veggie skewers
RiverBelle Terrace Turkey sandwhich (real carved turkey meat!)
Pacific Wharf Cafe salad in a bread bowl.

Definitely the fruit and veggie snack tray snacks. And the giant pickles and pretzels. Dole Whips and fresh pineapple. But I did notice last month the fruit and veggie trays are different. Seem to be pre-packaged rather than fresh. I don't know if there is a difference. Anyone had some recently? The BBQ Bengal skewers are healthy, too but rather pricey for what you get.

Oh, for snacks (sorry, I was thinking meals), fruit at the fruit stands! They have pineapple, mangos, and apples with peanut butter or caramel for dipping among other fruits.

Yeah, i noticed they were pre-packaged when we went a few months ago. It looks like the same brand you can buy pre-packaged at the grocery store. I was hoping for fruit with pixie dust (like Sherry is always talking about) and while it was good, i think it was the same as I have bought at Vons.

On someones trip report they posted the most delicious fruit plate. I had to write it down, as it looks like something my son would LOVE.

It was at Riverbelle Terrace in Frontierland. One of the breakfast dishes. It had canteloupe, honeydew, strawberries, grapes, kiwi, and I believe one other type of fruit.

I specialize in food so let me see what I have available.
There is usually at least one sort of vegetarian meal available at each CS and TS but not always.

Salads usually are made on site so you can ask them to hold the cheese or for lite dressing. All over DLR are stands selling fresh fruit, fruit boxes, pickles, trail mix, and Fruitabu Organic Smooshed Fruit Snack (sort of like fruit leather and all fruit). Dreyer's Strawberry Whole Fruit Bar are sold at all carts that sell novelties and there is frozen yogurt at some ice cream spots. Fish can be found at some restaurants.

French Market offers
Plantation Spinach and Arugula
Crisp spinach and Arugula served with hard boiled egg, tomato, red onion rings, goat cheese, and popcorn shrimp with pineapple bacon dressing - $9.49
Herb and Garlic Salmon Creole - Herb and garlic salmon fillet, served on a bed of wild rice and roasted corn drizzled with a fennel and tomato broth. Served with seasonal vegetables and cheddar corn bread. - $13.99
Plantation Citrus Chicken - Succulent roasted chicken breast seasoned with citrus and Cajun spices, with smashed potatoes, seasonal vegetables and cheddar corn bread. - $12.99

Plaza in offers kids baked chicken drummettes or tell them you want a gluten free baked chicken dinner which is free of sauce but has skin on it.

Rancho Zocalo offers sauteed veggies in place of the beans and rice.

The other fruit is usually pineapple.

Why thank you...here's the link to the post.....page 88, post #1312 (just in case it doesn't take you to the right page...lol)

I would have put the picture up, but darn photobucket is down right at the moment.
The fruit was very fresh & the strawberries were very sweet & yummy!

As someone else mention...there are fruit stands with lots of tasty choices.

Lots of fruit can be found around the park these days although it's not exactly supermarket prices.

For meals you can find grilled chicken and salmon at some of the resturants in downtown disney and a few park restaurants. Personally I like the giant chef salad at the Carnation Cafe -- just be sure to sub out the dressing for something lighter.

Thanks! I didn't want to have to read through a bunch of reports to find it. Glad you spotted the post! :) (My son says that the fruit plate is a "must get" while we are at the park.)

No, fruit isn't supermarket prices, but at $1.59 for a piece of whole fruit, it's still the cheapest snack in the park! :-) I've always found the (whole) apples to be very good.

Redd Rockett's has some really good green salads with a very nice mix of baby spring greens. Plaza Inn also has a good salad. I've heard they have cut down the portion sizes recently, but these used to be huge. There's a veggie sandwich at the Blue Ribbon Bakery, also ham and turkey sandwiches. I believe these all have cheese, but there's no dressing of any kind - there are packets of mayo and mustard to put on your own.

I know that the sit down restaurants and casual dining are going to have some options some have already been listed, but other then Bengal bbq I dont think theres much in the way of counter service. mostly burgers and frys sort of thing. You could probably get some pretty good soups or a salad at pacific warf though which is in DCA

Yes, until recently, the fruit has been most excellent. I too saw the prepackaged nonsense and was sad. But the stuff not packaged is still, hopefully, the best fruit on the planet and totally worth the non-organic nature of it. If you can find grapes in a non-branded container, those might be their superfantabulous grapes, but if it's in something with a label, I'd stay away.

You can ask to see the ingredients/nutrition info on the snacks they make, say, at Pooh's Corner...we have to do it to see if corn syrup (and related ingredients) are in things (anything with caramel is out the window, b/c of corn syrup, and even chocolate dipped apples are gone b/c they have corn syrup between apple and chocolate layer). And gelatin too b/c of being veggie. So I've spent a bit of time scanning those binders. :)

Not sure I'd call dole whips healthy...not high in calorie, that's for sure, but it will depend on your idea of healthy food as to whether you consider certain things to be healthy for you. :) (googling dole whip brings you to the neat but sadly info-lacking wikipedia page...go to the website linked on that page and you can find the "pineapple soft serve" ingredients if you want to)

Check out the DLR dining section of allears.net for menus...can give you an idea of the foods available.

Just in case you're traveling with (nonallergic) kids...you might think a PB&J is healthy, but it's the Smuckers Uncrustables nonsense...junk ingredients. Just bring a PB&J in on your own. :goodvibes

great thread :thumbsup2 thank you. I try to eat healthier too. Riverbelle Terrace tends to have some good healthier choices. I know they have changed their menu recently so I don't know what is on the new one, they do have a tasty veggie po'boy. I think they still have a salmon plate. Village Haus and I think Hungry Bear have a turkey club sandwich. It's been years since I ate at the Tomorrowland Terrace but they used to have a yogurt & fruit plate for breakfast. :confused3

oh and I'm guessing you probably don't want this:
