How many of you past participants had to drop off your parent's health insurance because of not being a full/part time student?

I'm not a past participant, a Fall 2010 hopeful... but am also interested to hear anything anyone has to say on the matter. I'm in the same spot really, as I'll be graduating this May.

From what I hear there is no insurance plan for CPs...

My parents have Blue Cross Blue Shield and I didn't have to be dropped. We called asking about it, and they said that I would have to do the program before I turn 19 (I turn 18 the day I arrive on the CP) to stay on my parents insurance.

My parent's health insurance said that I had to be enrolled in at least 12 hours by the time I turned 19, or I'd be dropped.

Officially, no. WD Parks and Resorts US, Inc. does not offer any sort of Benefits/Insurance Package offered to College & International Program Participants at the Walt Disney World Resort. Student Program Participants at the Disneyland Resort are entitled to enrol in the same Limited Health Benefit Package offered to all Casual Regular Cast Members.

That being said, I do remember some CPs in my area talking about how they received Benefits Packages in the post. I think it was BasicMed (the CR Benefits Programme). Probably just a fluke on the company's part, but just something that y'all might be interested in.

I'm doing the program Spring 2010! I could stay under my parents insurance only if I took 12 credit hours per semester. It didn't matter if I recieved credit over winter school or summer classes. I'm not getting any credit from my school so I am taking a leave of absence. I am getting 12 fieldwork credits from Central Michigan University. They are listed on the CP website as schools where you can get credit from, then the credits will transfer back to my school as general credits.

Thanks for the info! If we get accepted, who could we talk to about getting the BasicMed?

You wouldn't talk to anyone. Florida CPs really aren't supposed to be receiving any sort of Benefits package from the company.

I'm just saying that some do receive packets out of the blue. Not sure why, but it just happens.

Though if you're doing a Programme at the Disneyland Resort, you would receive a Packet in the post, approximately 3 months or so after hiring in.

I heard from someone that you must have some kind of health insurance as a CP. Is that true? Because mine will end after graduation in Dec.

It's highly recommended, but certainly not required.

There are a wide variety of companies that offer Individual Health Insurance.

I don't know what health plan you guys are on, but my parents have Fallon health in Massachusetts and when I looked into it it said this:

Age limits for dependent children

A dependent child is eligible for coverage until his or her 26th birthday or for two years after the end of the calendar year in which such child last qualified as a dependent under 26 U.S.C. 106, whichever occurs first. Coverage under the family or adult/child(ren) contract ends on midnight of the day before his or her 26th birthday. Whenever a dependent child’s coverage under the family coverage ends, the coverage for any offspring of that dependent child also ends.

So it looks like I basically get health coverage for 2 years after I stop being dependent (for example, stop being enrolled in college) and it is theoretically valid until I turn 26.

I think this MAY be some sort of Massachusetts thing in general, because I remember one of my friends talking about how she got to keep her parents health insurance for 2 years after she graduated. So it's worth looking into, especially if you live in MA.

Scoah! (:lmao: = "score")

Thank you! I'm going to go check this out now......... that and renter's insurance, if it's covered under my parent's homeowner's.

You were right. For anyone else from Massachusetts, check out this:

http://www.mass.gov/legis/laws/seslaw06/sl060058.htm

SECTION 53. Said chapter 176A is hereby further amended by inserting after section 8Y the following section:—

Section 8Z. Any subscription certificate under a group nonprofit hospital service agreement, except certificates which provide supplemental coverage to Medicare or other governmental programs which shall be delivered, issued or renewed in the commonwealth, shall provide, as benefits to all group members having a principal place of employment within the commonwealth, coverage to persons who are age 25 and under or for 2 years following loss of dependent status under the Internal Revenue Code, whichever occurs first.

I suggest everyone check their state's laws on this - I checked wikipedia first, found the law, and then went on the state website to make sure it was real. Good luck everyone!

Ah awesome! Maybe some other states have this too. I'm definitely glad that MA does though

For Anthem (BlueCross BlueShield) in Georgia, the until age 26 rule seems to apply as well. At least according to our coverage information.

I guess that would explain why there wasn't a problem when I took a year off from school.

I don't know if yalls schools offer insurance, but i'm on my school's insurance and I just had to stay at least a part-time student to keep it. So i took one class at disney (had 2, but dropped one) and my school gave me 6 credit hours. yall could look into something like that. A lot of people transfer to my school just while they're at disney so they can get credits and have insurance :)

I'm from Michigan and when I went I was 21. I'm on my dad's Blue Care Network HMO and I was covered, since I was technically on an internship, but wasn't enrolled in school. Blue Care Network covers you until you're 25.
