Healies at Epcot

We do. However, as soon as the kids get out of our line of sight, they start skating again.

I haven't done this, but one of my co-workers saw a kid wipe out on their heelys, and mentioned to them "Next time, try walking. It's less painful"

what 's really disgusting about that is the parents are training their kids it is ok to disobey rules if they want to when they allow them to skate again when they know they aren't allowed ( and they'll wonder why the kid stops listening to them at 12 yrs of age  )

My boys think they're great. I tell them they'll never have them. It'll make them lazy. Kids need exercise now more than ever before. Rollar shoes aren't helping the problem.

I have to say that they are not as easy as they look. You have to really tighten all your muscles and have great core strength to have any success with them.

I've taught my son to ride them and have ridden some adult versions. It is not easy to balance and takes muscle control and a degree of fitness. I work out and run about 4 miles every other day and it is still hard for me to use them for any length of time.

I'm not disputing that they are a menace in the parks but they are not easy to ride or easier then walking!

My DD-8 wanted to wear Healies (Gym shoes with wheel in them) to WDW. I said no to MK, because too crowded, but thought Epcot would be okay. However, security said no, so we didn't....

But then saw lots of kids wheeling around in the park....

Opinions, Goldi

Just back from a week at WDW, no one follows the rules and no CM's enforce the rules. So do what ever to damn well please. Enjoy yourself and be damn with everyone else. Let's party. Its me, me, me, at disney world this year. :dance3:

I have to agree with this. When I read the same quote you quoted, I was thinking the same thing! I watched my kids (who are all pretty coordinated) try to use them once (no, we didn't buy them!) and saw how much trouble they had, and they inline skate a lot. I even have trouble with that, and would definitely consider it exercise.

However, even if they did have Heelies, and even if they were allowed in WDW (which I agree they shouldn't be), I wouldn't allow them to use them without a minimum of a helmet and wristguards (and kneepads if they were in shorts) so I really don't think they'd want to deal with that hassle! Plus, the ones I've seen are not very light shoes and I have to think would be more tiring when you were walking in them than the energy you'd save during the brief times skating.
