These sneakers are all the rage with kids, my kids won't ever own them, I can just see them breaking their neck. Anyway, I was in Toys R Us in NYC last week, waiting for my friends. Where I was standing was in front of a Healies display. Because I was just standing there waiting, my mind started wandering. I looked at the healies, and started thinking about, what if...old people started using them?

OMG! :lmao: The mental image I got of Granny and Grampy zipping around on healies! :rotfl2: :lmao:

My friends showed up and wanted to know what was so funny, I had a huge smile on my face. I guess I was really enjoying my minds eye image! :teeth:

Yup, I got a mental picture too. Of an elderly person on the ground with a broken hip!! :rotfl2:

Help, I've fallen and I can't get up!! :rotfl2:

:rotfl: Someone at the grocery store was talking about that last week. Their kids had healies, and the parents said, "You want to buy Grandma and Grandpa some?!" :rotfl:

The other day I was in a grocery store. A kid pushing the cart had on Heelies. An older man turned to his wife and said, "Look that kid has wheels on his sneakers!". I guess that was the first time he had seen them. It was so cute the way he said it.

I would be so afraid to wear those. I have a hard enough time walking in regular sneakers.

That would definitely end that fad. :rotfl: My kids haven't expressed an interest in owning a pair at all so I haven't known how popular the shoes have become until I've seen threads about it on here.

I saw a kid wearing them at Epcot recently. Don't know what he was thinking at the time but he decided to try & wheel down just past England, near the one gift shop before you reach the Friendship boat dock. It's rather steep--of course he was going too fast & crashed pretty hard. I'm amazed he didn't break anything!

Yea, they're not even allowed in the parks or at DTD. My daughter is a CM and says if they see kids using them they tell them to remove the wheels.

i hate those things! i am one of those grouchy non parents ;) and it seems like the only time i notice kids with healies are when they are running into me! :rolleyes1

We saw healies all over WDW last month. A lady in our Segway tour almost took a teen on healies out. She dumped the Segway and got hurt instead.

I never saw a CM say anyything to any of the kids who had them.

oh, the make adult Healies now as well. Might buy a pair. :lmao:

My DS9 wore his Heelys all week in May. He wasn't asked to remove the wheels but he also doesn't go fast. Most of the time he is holding my hand & getting a free ride.

So Heely's are the new stollers!!!!! :thumbsup2

I honestly can't understand why any parent would let their child wear these in places like Disney World. :confused3 I mean would you let them skateboard or wear regular roller skates? I think not. These can be just as dangerous, as I have heard stories of kids falling and skating into innocent people. There are also reports of the damage these kids will do to their posture and back because of the way they have to hold their body when using them.

Please...if your kids have them and you go to DW, just remove the wheels. It's not worth your child's or anyone else's health or vacation for that matter. If they're too tired to walk, take a break. ;)

Healies arent allowed in my local grocery store either, but I still see kids zipping around in there.

It looks hard to actually walk with the wheels in.

I am so sick of the kids zipping around the store with those things on. We are constantly telling them they can't use them in the store (not only very dangerous but rough on the floors!) I don't understand why parents think it is OK for kids to be using them in a public building :confused3 I am glad that my kids are older and won't be asking for them because I would be the mean mommy saying no.

Edited to go back to the op.........grannies and grampies on healies, OMG, they are dangerous on their little motorized carts, I'd be running for my life if they were on healies!!! :teeth:

Is read on the manufacturers' website that the heelies are to be treated like any other wheeled sporting good item....the wearer should not walk with the wheels in, because of the damage it can do to joints and back, and helmet and pads should be worn whenever they are being used with the wheels. Also, that they should not be used in malls, stores, and places with lots of people because they are dangerous to innocent pedestrians as well.

Just thought I would mention that...I guess my kids won't ever wear them at WDW or the mall or grocery store - not only because they shouldn't be used there, but also because who wants to wear a helmet and wrist/knee pads at WDW??? :rotfl2:

It is like many other things at WDW. If someone makes a big deal about it or it so obvious that the CM can't ignore it, the CM will do something about it. Many CMs do not enforce rules because they don't want an ugly confrontation with a guest.

I've seen two kids wipe out with them- both face first, hit something and boom, down they went. I see NO HEALIES signs all over the place now- most recently at our swim club. They do look fun, and I'd let my son have them as a toy- like a skateboard, but not for everyday wearing. He's not interested, yay.

Still, I sure could use a pair in Costco some days...
