Just wanted to share our experience with the Caribbean Beach Resort Pirate kids cruise staff.

Booked the kids on a mid-December pirate cruise at the CBR.
Upon arrival I let the staff know that DS7 would not be eating the peanut butter sandwich but should still be offered the juice box, crackers, and gummies. I told them he can be around people eating butter but he cannot eat or touch it .
The pirate cruise staff asked me what else he would like instead. I said not to worry about it , that he had a very large breakfast and will be fine with the other food. The staff again asked me what he would like instead of the PB and start offering me suggestions such as a ham sandwich or a turkey sandwich. I said if it is not too much trouble he could have a ham sandwich.

DD informed me that DSs sandwich was a huge sub.

BTW, the kids both loved the pirate cruise as well as the staff. You should have seen their smiles coming off the boat.

Great to hear, but why on earth would they offer PB&J standard? With the number of peanut allergies, this is just a disaster and a lawsuit waiting to happen. :sad2:

I know they can't protect everyone from everything, but this is so common.

Because mayonaise spoils fast, it is meatless, cheap, easy to make, and kids like PB&J sandwiches.

Plus, although peanut is a potentially dangerous allergen, it is not nearly as common among children as milk and egg allergy. It is easier to serve the "uncrustables" as they are pre-frozen and don't spoil easily.

Glad to hear about your experience!

My DS has milk and egg allergy, and outgrew peanut and sesame (yes, it's a bit rare but he did!). We have had such good experiences at WDW and love to hear about others!

Out of curiousity, how old is your DS? I always hesitate to send my peanut and nut allergic DD anywhere where I know she'll be surrounded by peanut butter. However, she's getting older now and becoming responsible for herself. It's very hard for me to loosen my vise-like grip on her as far as food is concerned. Congrats to you for being brave.

Does the staff carry an allergic child's epi-pen out there with them?

If there was a reaction while they were out on the cruise what would the staff do?

I had heard about this cruise, but when I saw they served PB&J, I said no way would I put my DD in that situation. (she has a sever peanut allergy) It's so nice to hear they went out of their way to make your DS feel included with the other kids. My DD is really good about not eating anything offered to her by anyone except for me or her Dad, but I don't know if I would feel comfortable sending her out w/ other people, god forbid a reaction did occur. Glad to hear that you had such a great experience, and more importantly your DS was safe!:thumbsup2

Happy Mommy - how old was your DS when he outgrew his peanut allergy? Our DD is 5 and was just tested a few months ago and her level was still >100, while all of her tree nut levels have decreased to almost undetectable levels. We've been told she will probably have this for the rest of her life, but there is still a little part of me holding out hope!

DS is only 7 but is very serious/mature kid by nature. I knew I could completely trust him not to touch anything peanut butter.
