is a great song. But, it's hard for me to not say that about any of theirs.
So, I called the record store in Charlotte, Manifest, which is where they will be this Tuesday and asked him if they had sold out of the 400 preorders of their new CD (which is basically admission to the performance and an autograph). He laughed at me. I think he put me on speaker because he had me ask again, and this time, I heard people trying to supress fits hysterical laughter. He said (in his coolest record store employee who only like obscure bands like "Sea of Tranquility"...HA, I made that band up just now and the record store guy is their biggest fan because they are that obscure, voice) that the presales sold out in 3 hours.
Why? Why did I call? These guys are becoming amazingly huge and thy are doing a performance at a record store 10 MILES from their hometown. They have a cult following that rivals Phish, and here I am, some nerdy mother of 2 who wears pj's almost exclusively, and I'm calling to pretty much ask when The Beatles are showing up.
Ok, there is this SUPER DUPER popular musical festival about 20 miles from my house. It's called Merlefest. Look it up. Great music, great cause, all outdoors. EVERY SINGLE YEAR at least ONE superstar shows up and the rest are popular acts, but not legends. Zac Brown Band pretty much got their start by playing Merlefest. In the past, we have had Elvis Costello, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Vince Gill, Mindy Smith, Dierks Bentley, Bill Monroe etc. Last years "Big star" was Steve Martin. Yes, that Steve Martin. He is a banjo master. Do you think anyone cared about Steve Martin? I mean, this man co hosted the Oscars about 3 weeks beforehand. He was not the big draw. It was The Avett Brothers. So anyway, I'll go to Merlefest next year and stand in 90 degree weather with thousands of people who don't believe in showering or shaving and sing along to I and Love and You.
Oh, and people come from all over the world, literally. It's a world famous musicfest. merlefest.org Check it out if you love bluegrass, country, or just music in general. I sounds like a commercial, but it's one of 2 things in this area why are proud of: Merlefest and Zach Galifianakis.
